So, many guys here started using yahoo messenger as a way to communicate (because it is one option that you can put in your profile's info), and it is shutting down on July 17th as I just read, what is everyone's opinion on it?
Are you gonna miss it, never used it, or what?

Honestly I'm a little surprised people still use it if I'm being honest. I assume that was something that died along with MSN.

Good, yahoo is a terrible place for user privacy. If you have an account there it's likely it has been hacked and all of your personal data is up for grabs. They had the largest data breach ever recorded in history with 3.5 BILLION accounts stolen.

Yeah, all the 00s popular messengers sucked at user privacy and it's weird that people never cared. ICQ was a big thing here and it could have been easily hacked and it became a common thing.

Agreed, people shouldd be using https://ricochet.im, https://xmpp.org, https://signal.org, or https://telegram.org if they value privacy.

I was starting to start a post like this one, but I didn't know where to put it without the moderators fussing. I've been using Yahoo Messenger for a while and I know several people here us it. I'm surprised that it is shutting down. It is some much easier to chat there than here. I will have to use Skype or something else to use after Yahoo Messenger shuts down.

I had used Yahoo Messenger but when they announced they were discontinuing it I switched to Google Hangouts. If u have gmail u already have an ID. I like it better and google has a better record on hacks.

I use it to talk to one person and I am hoping she will give me another contact info method but idk. And I like it well enough it does the job it is meant to do.

Nothing to stop you from opting out and using the classic style, that's what I do.
