I like someone a year below me but I leave school in 1.5 weeks (16th June) I find it hard to speak to her in person as her current group of friends have a 'bad rep' sort of thing; I don't like them, they don't like me sorta thing. I have her on SM but isn't it bit weird to hook up on social media?

Anyway, you don't have much time chat her up personally. Make sure to do it to cement your friendship and give you a reason to hit her up from time to time even while out of school.

But in my opinion you shouldn't expect to do a big gesture right away. Flirting on social media is a mixed bag because you don't know if she will see you as sincere. Plus, if her friends see it they might misinterpret things and complicate everything.
