I'm a film major in college and have seen a lot of foreign films, but most people I've met outside of college have never seen a foreign movie. If you have seen any, what's your favorite? NOTE: dubbed anime doesn't really count, unfortunately :D
Mine would be Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others). It takes place in post-WWII East Germany, where the communist government sent secret police to spy on "suspicious" individuals in their own homes. It's really well-written, and the cinematography is absolutely phenomenal. It's rated R, but I highly suggest people watching it!

I think my favorite "foreign" film is an old one called "Trafic", starring, written and directed by Jacques Tati, a hilarious comedy about a trip from Paris to Amsterdam. :D

i've seen Les Choristes. Definitely do recommend. Pretty sure it's an 18 as some of the phrases are super sexual.

Wow that was a really dumb comment on my part  And I'm actually not that big a fan of CT,HD for some reason. The concept is cool, but I wasn't a big fan of how it was shot.

I forgot to mention "A Better Tomorrow", a Hong Kong drama from 1980-something, with a fair amount of action. Good stuff. :)

What's your definition of "foreign films"?
"Films that are not in English" or "films made outside the US" or something else?

For A Lost Soldier, Vito and The Others, The Flamingo Kid, and Pixote -- we had to watch them in a class in school and I thought they were pretty good.

Lol every local film here is considered a foreign film while every major blockbuster is a foreign film...
To answer you question in the way I think you are intended... the malls here usually hold a Italian, French German, Japanese etc film fest. And our school sometimes asks us to go see one and review for extra credit so I watch a lot.. most are cool some are very specific to their culture so I don't get a lot of references.

I've seen two and they're both great. El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (Del Torro, 2006) and Cidade de Deus (City of God) (Meirelles, 2002).

In my opinion the best comedies are the French ones. You can't miss with any french comedy

This looks good! I read some trivia that they waited until just after she turned 18 so she could film the explicit scenes.

I'm a fan of Jacques Tati. My favorite Tati movie is "Mr. Hulot Holiday" ("Les Vacances de M. Hulot").

I think they mean anything that isn't made in Hollywood. xD
