View Full Version : How should I tell my parents I want to be circumcised

As of right now, i'm thirteen but will be turning 14 on June 18th. Now before any of you say "Why would you want to be" in the Midwest, most people are circumcised and I hate being uncut. Is fourteen too late to be circumcised? How should I ask my parents?

I would not do an operation for circumcision at age 13 or 14. When u r older there can be more pain and longer recovery time than at birth. People here on this site that had the operation for medical reasons said they could not jack for 2-3 weeks. There can be complications from surgeries as I found out when my leg was operated on. Just be happy with what u have. Cut and uncut look the same when hard. So have a boner when u undress in front of other people so u don't look different.

I disagree with what has previously been said.

If you want it, tell them. The complications, problems etc are bullshit. I had mine at 16, 14 is definitely not too late. I've had tons of friends having it done recently too (18 and 19). As for what to say, just say you want to be circumcised

I disagree with the above statement.

Complications and post operative issues are not "bullshit". Just because something hasn't happend to you doesn't mean that it doest exist. There is always a chance of bleeding or infection with any procedure. Also be very sure that you really want this now cause there is absolutely no going back. A circumsision is more permanent than a pearcing or even a tatoo. I would wait till Im a bit older to make that descision, especially at 14. As little as we would like to admit it, we are influenced by our frienda and peer pressure despite us thinking that we are not. That being said if you are 100% sure that this is what you want and you have done your research I think that you should just tell your parents, don't think of various different ways to tell them just tell them.

I mean it can certainly be more painful to do it at a later age, which is one of the reasons many parents have it done to their children as babies (I am glad I was as a baby). That being said, if it is something you really want talk to them about and explain it to them. It may be something though you will have to wait and pay for yourself. Honestly, while I am happy to be circumcised, I wouldn't do it at this point unless for medical reasons. I know many, if not most in the midwest are cut, but not everyone is. I can understand why you want to. Like I said talk to your parents and just explain your reasoning.

Unless u have some sort of a medical
problem I would not advise u to think
about it. If ur comfortable discussing it
with ur parents-Great but even so y
would u want to go thu an operation.

Unless you have a medical problem and it is at the last thing that can be done where there is nothing better than can be done, I wouldn't advise it.

I have heard of people saying that it hurts really bad during an erection during recovery, and that you cannot jerk off for 2-3 weeks. It is more painful and takes longer to recover compared to being circed at birth or at infancy.

There is no age limit when it comes to getting circumcised but keep in mind that the pain will take longer to heal (2-4 weeks usually) compared to having it done as a baby. Just talk to your parents about your reason to get cut.

It isn't too late. Just tell them why you want to do it and consider it carefully - it can't be undone. If you are sure, then go for it.

I can't speak from experience as I was circumcised as an infant, but from what I have read and as others have suggested, the recovery can be painful. I would suggest not doing it unless medically necessary.

I don't know the US culture but you should maybe frame it like you want to consult a doctor if your foreskin is normal. Then if the doctor brings up the pros and the cons in front of your parents, they could be convinced.

I have a feeling they don't want you to be circumcised otherwise they would have explained the options to you already. Just a hunch.

Honestly there's not really a good way to ask, you just need to go for it. I'm no professional on this but I'm guessing your parents or probably the doctors more likely will have you wait a little bit to really think of you want this done

Just tell them you want it as honestly as possible do not bluff and give non existent benefits coz they might think you haven't thought it through.

Don't think it's less painful as a baby. It's the same amount of pain at such a delicate period of time (since you cant sedate a baby). Doctors have linked baby circumcision to increased aggression in children and difficulty socially. Whether or not you agree is not the debate, but circumcision is not a natural thing. If men needed to be circumcised we wouldn't be born with foreskin in the first place.

If you get circumcised, and then get an erection it will severely damage your penis. I think it’s too much to risk, but if you still wanna, ask for a sedative that will temporarily prevent erection. As for your questions, no age is too old I suppose and just ask them.

If you are sure, and this isn't about that so lets just ignore motive, just say 'I want to get circumcised'. If they say 'why?' you say what you said up there and that you don't like it. I guess the only real issue could be that the insurance might not pay for it

This is an aging post, so I hope you're still reading the comments.
1. Is your dad circumcised? (I bet he isn't). I'd talk to him privately about how you feel awkward having a foreskin cuz all the other boys are circumcised. I bet he'll go over all the pros and cons with you.
2. I bet this won't be covered by insurance. I bet it will be EXPENSIVE. Dad might say he can't afford it, and it may be true.
3. For reference, I was circumcised as a baby, and I wish I still had my foreskin! (Hey, maybe they can cut yours off of you and sew it onto me!!)

I think circumcision is a barbarian practice like infibulation.

Billy and Ethan,

If you are sure--go for it. I was cut at birth so I don't know anything about the procedure now. Our whole class is cut so I can see what you mean about trying to fit in.

But your parents make the decision.

hey man, I think its best just to tell them, tell them you want to talk about somethhing later, at a certain time, then sit down and tell them. Personally however, I don't reccomend it! I hate be circumcised! Don't do it just because everyone else does. You loose al sensatitvity on you your penis head and it isn't as lubricated.
