Hi I wanted to ask if anyone can give me some advise. my family and me are going on holiday to France this summer and the place were going your only allowed to wear speedo type swim trunks in the pool and no shorts or boardies. has anyone found this before in France? why do they do it?
i'm really embarassed to wear speedos and never worn them before but they show everything up even when your soft and if you get a boner it would be soo embarssing. my brothers are also realy worried. help please

while I haven't worn a Speedo before (I kind of want to try one) it is not going to be a big deal esp since all of the other guys will be wearing one. if you did get a boner you wouldn't be the first guy to get one while wearing one. buy one to get use to it (make sure it fits good and everything) and when the time comes, wear it at the beach and don't even think about it

This. It sounds like a stupid rule imo but it's their country lol. Everyone is in the same boat so it shouldn't be an issue imo.

Half of my family is French and I've been there many times. Never come across a rule that required speedos, though many people there do wear them. I've worn one before, it felt too revealing...not that there was much to reveal... :lol:

I'm not sure that it is a strict rule that you have to wear a Speedo or you get kicked out of the beach (But hey what do I know, I've never been to France so I could be wrong), in which case if you are really uncomfortable just wear trunks or whatever you normally wear for swimming.

As for wearing speedos though, I swim more recreationally just for exercise and because I've been liking to swim more than before, and I do wear Speedos. At first it felt really awkward and I felt self-conscious but then after a while you realize that probably nobody cares. Everyone is busy doing whatever they're doing , there are other guys that have swim briefs too (and others that wear trunks) and nobody really cares. If you don't make a big deal out of it, it is likely that other won't either.

That is a weird rule, but I wear speedo for swimming and it's not that bad. You feel kind of exposed at first but you get used to it quickly.

The speedo I wear for my swim team has a pattern with multiple colors. It does not show off a boner or your package very much compared to other teams that use solid colors. The first few times I put it on I had a boner and the same happened when I put a jock strap on. I jack before I put those on now so I don't get an unwanted boner or u could think of something or someone ugly so u don't get a boner.

I am from Denmark and go to France every summer, so I know the awkwardness - I have slowly gotten used to them :P
I used to have swim shorts laying on the sun chair that I wear when I was sunbathing; I will recommend you that. Then you just have to wear speedos when in the pool.

You don't have to be afraid of boners since most campsites have a cold pool too - if you are feeling aroused, just go in that pool, it will be gone in a few minutes.

I have been to over 20 French campsites and never been to one that did not have this rule.
You have to get used to it since they will ask you to leave the pool if you don't follow the rule (been there, done that :P)

That would be at the beach. I have never seen that at the pool in France - but I have primarily been to family-friendly places :-) They have very strict rules about swimwear.
It does sometimes happen at the beach, but that is usually old people. Most places have a nudist beach though - my friend once sunbathed there without knowing and woke up to old men walking around nude, hahaha �� She got away quickly :P

yup, i went to france last year and we had to wear speedos. apparently they do it for hygiene. anyway, i would suggest wearing them for a while, trying to get used to them. i know they can be embarrasing but you might as well just wear them so you can have a good time

I’ve worn speedos for a while now and it’s not too bad. I am from Australia where they are not too uncommon. My suggestion if you have to wear one is get one that is black or navy coloured - these are likely to show off less of your junk.

The reason I heard is that they banned shorts because some people wear swim shorts all day and then go into the pool with them.
You dont have to wear speedo briefs, jammers and "square pants" are also ok

Darker colored speedos don't show um bulges as much as lighter ones. I still have some even though i wear jammers for racing and boardshorts more at the beach. Speedos are still a must for diving.

yeh thanks it wasn't to bad when you got used to it and no-one said anything. kind of embarssing because speedos show up everything especaily when they get wet but I just stayed in the water loads.

A speedo only beach? Interesting but I could see why that would be uncomfortable for many. It wouldn't be my thing personally. Maybe just not go there? I'm sure there's other beaches.

Instead of brief-style speedo, what about a trunk-style or square cut? I've seen those before and they aren't as revealing.

I wear both styles of swimming gear..shorts and speedos. When I was younger I wore speedos and nothing really showed. Now when I wear one I do show a bulge. I don't think anyone seemed to be offended. I have worn speedos at several beaches in California, Florida and Alabama. I've gotten boners wearing speedos. Just go into the water or roll over on your stomach if you want to hide them. I believe you wear what makes you feel comfortable when swimming.

I wear speedos all the time for swim team. Plus I do water polo now so it’s part of the uniform. They show my bulge, but it is what it is. If I get a boner I just stay in the water until it goes down.
