Forced to move away

Im 14 and have recently been forced to move away from my family and step brother/sisters (ill talk about that another time as im not quite ready yet). Has anyone else had to deal with living away (i cant even see my mum) in another city? How did you cope with making new friends? I dont know anyone here and none of my old friends from home will talk to me (everyone knows "what happened" and dont like me for it)

I haven't had quite that experience- but when I was about 9, I moved to the town I'm presently living in, and I really didn't know anyone here. I left the town I'd grown up in up to that point to go live with my dad full time in Phoenix for a while, then I moved to Utah. (Though I still lived with my dad part time until I was almost 15, but I didn't have any friends in Phoenix either.)

Now, I was nine, so obviously making friends was a lot less complicated for me then. But then, it happened again, in a way, when I was almost 13- I went to middle school, and I knew all of like two people.

To be honest, I just sat on the sidelines and stayed quiet until I knew these people like my own family. Then, I was just about one of the noisiest members of the group!

Making friends offline as a teenager is hard. I kind of ended up doing it again when I got my job over a year ago. However, I was kind of forced to talk to the girls I was training- who came to the US from Thailand for school, and I ended up making really good friends with every single one of them before they went back.

I mean, making friends isn't hard for me personally, per se- I'm pretty friendly, I guess.

However, I'm not good at...Initiating contact. I'm a little antisocial. I'll answer questions and all that good stuff, but small talk is impossible for me sometimes.

It's just something you've gotta kind of push yourself into. Once you feel comfortable with someone, it'll be effortless.

Sorry if none of this actually applies to you, I tend to get wrapped up in my head when I start something, and I'm not good at giving friendship-making advice or anything.

Hi Jacob so sorry you have to go through this... I'm afraid I don't quite understand though. If your friends at your current town does not speak to you, is it not a good thing to move away? A huge change is always scary, but think of it as starting anew :) cleaning the slate and all. I know you barely know me but if you need someone to talk to.. you know, maybe to rant or just tell someone about how your new town is treating you... you know where that PM button is :) stay strong x

Thanks for the replies. I guess in some light the change is good but id still rather be in the old situation when nothing was wrong. Ill definately push for it Ren - i guess i just havent found the right person to be comfortable around. Everyone just feels like a complete stranger you would see on the street and i have trouble even remembering names.

Liv - what i meant was my old friends no longer like me and became mean to me. Ill definitely take you up on your offer for a rant some time :)
