Hey there,
I've got a bit of a problem. Tomorrow I will be going on vacation with a friend of mime. We had this planned for months and the tickets have been bought. We were excited to go, but now its different. My friend heard yesterday that his grandma wont be getting any more medicine. It means his grandma WILL soon die but when is a mystery. He is sending me messages with how he is next to her, with grandpa thinking she is already gone or how she is high on morfine.
I have absolutely NO idea how to react. Im trying to at least be supportive...
Does anyone else know what to say in this situation?

I really dont know if this belongs here,
All these messages are actually making me cry. I almost feel like Im there myself since my own grandpa almost died just a while ago. Not that he needs to hear that right now.

I think you should see how he's taking it.
If he seems like he's depressed and needs support don't give him space. Be there every waking moment and let him know that you care for him.
If he doesn't want a lot of help then let him know when he does that you'll be there, but give him space. Don't avoid the topic and offer to let him sent with you. But if he seems like he doesn't want to talk about it, then don't force it.
Imagine what you would want your friend to do for you if you were in that situation, and try to do that for him. Ask him what he needs / wants and make sure to help him grieve and move on.
Be a shoulder to cry on, and help him move past too.
Do little suprise things for him. But don't do those things until he's ready, like in a month or so.
Considering how this will happen he definitely just should let it sink in and cry.
Don't try to help him move past until it's been a good long time.

You could “offer” to still accompany him on the trip, t9 help distract him from what’s happening. And if something happens, you can change your plans and go home.
Not knowing sucks, but you also wana be there to...
