So people like to toss out this quote that basically states that if you do not have self love then you cannot love others.
What are your thoughts on that?

You may not love them in the same way and there's a possibility of an unhealthy relationship there, perhaps a higher probability than with more self-appreciating partners, but it's very possible to love someone else when you don't love yourself imo.

I could talk about this sort of topic for ages, but to comment on your point specifically. I believe you can, but you'll never accept their love back. So you'll love them but you'll not be able to fully accept their love back, purely because you can't accept yourself.

I don't really love myself, I dont like the way i look, or my attitude towards people (especially girls) however, I still love this girl. she doesnt know I don't really like myself. I wouldn't go as far as saying i hate myself, but I certainly feel that their are better looking people out there than me :)

Yeah, I feel like I could tlk about this for ages. Because you don't like yourself much, it will be difficult to accept peoples love. This may make them wonder why they bother but just try and accept it. Down to earth people will understand your feelings.
