gym bro.. push ups are good but they won't make u bigger...

when u got to gym u got two options... do a lot with little weight... or do less with more weight. When u use all the weight u can lift, u are getting ur muscles bigger, if u do more exirsices with less weight, u burn fat and let those muscles be more noticiable...

anyway, if u go to a gym, for sure there will be some1 there to help u

I'm skinny and I'm fine :D. Actually when we do pull ups in gym, you know like when you hold yourself up on the bar, I am always one of the people that can hold it up there for the most time. I don't have to lift as much body weight up and I barely have any muscles, well some, not alot

Drop the body weight exercises as anything but a warm up and start doing a 20 rep squat routine.

Like everyone's been pointing out, it IS important to exercise- but it's useless if you're doing it wrong.

See, muscle/weight gain is not only about exercising muscles- it's about building them. Your body is a living thing, muscles work like tiny animals in the respect that they need to be fed as well. You need to nourish your muscles so they CAN grow!

Would you work a cow all day, refuse to feed it what it needs, and expect it to be round and healthy? Of course not.

Exercise, but work for an anabolic state. Try to make sure that you're making your muscles grow, and not just burning body fat.

Eat proteins and fats, as well as plenty of vitamins and minerals for your body and your muscles, eat complex carbs for energy. Beef up your calorie intake. Focus on foods that empower your body.

HOWEVER- make sure they're healthy. McDonalds may be fat and protein, but it's not going to do your body good. :P I work there, I would know.

Hope this helps. Good luck! :)

True some body types dont gain muscle easily but Mark H.Berry and Joseph Curtis Hise popularized a little something back in the 1930's called the 20 rep squat routine also known as the squats and Milk Routine and it has never failed to pack muscle on a person regardless of bodytype if they are wiling to put in the hard work in the gym and eat enough food.

The only person giving solid advice which is true, lol.

You can do all the push ups you want, but without eating at a caloric surplus, you won't be be able to build mass. And don't let anyone tell you bodyweight exercises are bad. Push ups, pull ups, dips, etc are all good. There should be different variations of each bodyweight exercise you should be doing though,in proper form. Again this is coming from someone who lifts and does body weight exercises too. If anything, body weight exercises have made me better compared to lifting weights only. My core has never been better, and flexibility/balance is one of the plus sides too.

By late 20s even the skinniest of us are going to sport at least a small gut and develop a relaxed atttitude towards our bodies......with jobs families following college binging etc etc. So do not push hard at working out and pumping iron, Eat whatever you like (dont over indulge on fries which will give you cholesterol, but sm fast food is fine).....have a positive calorie balance...Your body will decide what to do with the calories. If it expands it will expand to a degree and stop. You're not going to burst or something. I myself was super skinny and now a bit chubby....me and my GF both enjoy my new curves for sure.!!!!

For some people it can be extremely difficult to gain any mass what so ever. As long as you are healthy, you should be fine. (Source: I am an unhealthily skinny fuck incapable of gaining weight)

Some people have a body type called ectomorph which means they are going to be skinny and not particularly muscular their whole life. They can work like hell to build up muscles, but as soon as they stop pumping iron daily, their muscles will deflate. I'm pretty much an ectomorph. I'm toned, have natural pecs and abs etc when I flex, but they are very thin and will never become bulging muscles unless I spend hours a day lifting weights.

Do some weight lifting. 20 push ups ain't gonna do anything. Unless your big and just starting to work out body weight exercises aren't going to do much. If your school has it, use the weight room, or go to the gym.

Muscles do not deflate.

Regardless of your body type gaining muscle, losing fat or losing muscle all works the same way.

All your body type or rather genetics determines is how fast you can gain muscle and what is your ultimate potential in terms of lean body mass.

You can be muscular and ripped wether your very skinny or very big.

And just to be clear lifting weights hours a day wont get you muscle growth to begin with.

@ OP

If you don't like the way you are physically you need to work it out psychologically or you need to change.

Like it was mentioned pushups are good and all but if you want to gain muscle mass you should be looking towards the gym.

Intense weight training coupled with good nutrition & proper rest will build muscle but bear in mind it takes time for everyone. It's a long term progress for no matter who. 5-10 pounds of lean muscle mass per year.

Common misconception there bud. The reason why most people can't seem to "gain mass" by just doing body weight exercises is because there's only a tad bit of time under tension. Doing a pushup/pull up with a 4 second approach and other exercises(dips, etc) with a similar approach will cause you to do lower reps, because they're actually putting stress on your muscles, which in turn breaks them down to grow. Working out is working out,you gain mass by eating. Just sayin :P

No misconception I know what makes muscles grow I just didn't explain myself well enough I suppose.

It's just a lot more simple to hit all your muscles in the gym than with bodyweight.

When your a total beginner bodyweight is great. Very little chance to hurt yourself and you learn to feel/control your body and muscles.

I just prefer people going to the gym early on so they get a good start in terms of starting off with lower weights so they can practice form and move onto higher intensity free weight work outs when bodyweight isn't as challenging.

You can get a great physique doing good bodyweight excercises but I just think it's ''easier'' to achieve overload using free weights. Especially for legs... I could do a good bodyweight workout for my upper body but I really can't hit my legs with bodyweight alone.

I'm pretty skinney and I dont workout or anything. I dont like sports or any active stuff. I eat whatever I want and I just dont gain weight. I think its just our metabolism.

My aunt isnt skinney but she is small and thin and she said that having a baby made her gain a lot. PLEASE dont go out and get preg just to gain weight. Im just saying that when we get older we might gain weight.

It really depends on which way you prefer to gain mass honestly. There isn't going to be an easy way to gain muscle mass. When some of the body weight exercises get too easy, you amp it up a little bit. If 25 pull ups are too easy, get on to muscle ups and one handed pull ups. Pushups too easy? Get on one handed pushups, and other variations. For legs, pistol squats, glute ham raises, and tons of other exercises out there. You just keep finding a way to increase the resistance.

There's so many ways that bodyweight could be utilized in gaining mass/strength,it's just not as popular/spoken of as weightlifting sadly. Again,I'm not against working out with weights(I do that myself),but for a beginner you could get great progress with just bodyweight only granted you're eating right and at a surplus.

I also used to be skinny as a stick. Whn I met my gf I was working out to bulk up with very slow progress. She demanded that I put on rapidly cos I looked like a small kid (truly I had a small face and looked 13 at 17) and I had to stop working out and eat a high cal diet which included high carbs too!!. Within few months I gained like 5 kilos mostly fat...but in your teens it settles a bit on chest and tummy but mostly on thighs and butt....I had results in months with no pain. My faced plumped up a bit too and now I look my age and big. My GF loves my curves and especially my butt...She always gets me to strip to my briefs whn we are together. alone...I really enjoy my nw body to my old skinny self...My advice is to eat a calorie surplus and you will put on....do not concentrate on working out.

Yeah if someone is to far on the ectomorph side or the endomorph side, they are outta luck I guess unless they go to extreme measures. I'm glad I don't have much self awareness i.e. don't think much about my appearance. Besides for me any good looks kinda works against me. Like "he's a good looking guy, it's too bad he's a "retard". Have actually heard stuff along those lines :/

Giving up too soon bud. Being an ectomorph, mesomorph,or endomorph isn't an excuse to use for not being able to get visible muscles. You aren't getting visible muscles because you aren't working out consistently,or you haven't been eating at a surplus. It might take longer for an ectomorph to actually see visible muscle gain, but it doesn't mean that it's easy for anyone who falls into the mesomorph category. It generally takes 3 ~ 6 months to see visible changes anyway,so don't sweat it.

In short, forget the bro science and just work out. You will see results if you're putting in the effort.

I'm skinny and I hate it. Girls and guys only seem to like muscled men, and I'm 19, baby-faced, and meak so no one would take me serious. My advice, start small, pushups, squats, sit-ups, leg-raisers, etc. And build on working with your body weight and more.
