I'm a 14 year old straight boy. And I happen to like Christina Aguilera as an artist, but everyone else just makes fun of me laughs at me all the time. :( Does this happen to anyone else? What can i do to make it stop?

You shouldn't listen to what they say. Are these people in school? You can tell a teacher.

Agree.

It doesn't matter what they think, it's your choice.

I mean, anyone who criticizes your taste in music is petty to begin with. I personally get told that my "taste in music sucks" just because someone listens to one song I have on, and it isn't something they like.

I feel like punching their head through a wall, but usually I'll personally just say something like "Well that means your taste in music sucks too, bucko- bet I listen to some of the music you listen to as well!"

But I've told people that telling me that my taste in music sucks is something that could entirely break our friendship- it's stupid to begin with, even if music wasn't practically an unpaid career for me. It's definitely a passion. I don't need the kind of person who would criticize my passions in my life.

Now as far as liking a particular artist, just tell them it's none of their business. They don't own you, so they can stop telling you what you should and shouldn't listen to. (Then again when I'm mad I go from being nice and relatively pushovery to being assertive and candid, so you don't have to use what I'm saying exactly, just do what feels best for you.)

I couldn't have said it better. Why should their opinions matter to you? You like what you like. It doesn't matter what they think. I listen to stuff that gets me called Satanic. Am I that? No. Does that make me feel bad about myself? Hell no. I don't give two shits what they think. Listen to whatever you like.

^^^^^

People tell me I'm some sort of monster because I listen to metal/harder rock but I also listen to Christian music sometimes. (Even Anberlin, though they do not officially consider themselves a Christian band.)

I can like Relient K, or a large number of other bands, they're good musicians.

I can like metal bands for the same reasons.

Exactly. I like what I like because the music is good, not because it's "Satanic". One of my friends saw the album art when my phone screen was on, just the album art, and he said "Listening to goth music?" or it maybe was "Listening to Satanic music?" I can't remember. Point is, I brushed him off because, OP, it's what I like and it's really not other people's business.

I used to have arguments about my taste in music with other people, too as they used to laugh about my in their opinion weird taste...Well, for me I love music no matter what there is something good to be found in so many different genres so I listen to death metal, ghetto style hip hop or cajun music and to what's in the charts today...whenever I find something that catches my interest may it be lyrics, rhythm or whatever it becomes part of my playlist...others always laugh and say I'm a freak but it just doesn't matter to me anymore.

You can do what you want don't listen to others...okay?

Human beings puzzle me to no end.
You could make yourself up to look like Christina Aguilera as well, and it still would make no difference to me.
I wish someone would invent a Mind Your Own Business pill.
The problem is Noah, you can't fix stupid. You just have to live with it unfortunately.

That's a stupid thing to even argue about. See,the good thing about personal favorites or opinions is that you don't have to give any attention to what others say or like. Just keep on listening to her if you do like her music. On that note,Christina Aguilera is an amazing artist too.

wise child above me

people will mock you for that but everyone likes embarrassing things
it is whether they keep it hidden or not
I personally know a rugby player who enjoys listening to Taylor Swift before games so basically you are not alone
just ignore them

Out of all music, why Christina Aguilera? She's one of the best musicians of all time and totally underrated.

You like what you like, and whoever makes fun of you for it shouldn't even be a person you should bother with.. Music is music, there may be music we don't specifically like, but we shouldn't ruin someone who destroys it.

I used to get the same tbh! My favourite singers have always been the likes of Madonna, Britney Spears, Whitney, Katy Perry and Beyoncé, and when I was younger (before I came out) people would call me gay because of it, for all they knew I was straight but just because of my music tastes I was "gay" it kinda stopped when I was 15/16 because people grew up and moved on, now nobody cares :p Teenagers in school can be cruel though unfortunately :(

I'm a big fan of Mariah Carey and I was also made fun of due to her "diva-ish" personality although she's quite famous in the Asian region. People also call me gay but I just push them aside ;) It's always your choice to choose whether you want to be bothered by this or not :)
