So this isn't a question about positions or experiences. It's about terminology. Last week I overheard a group of girls asking their friend about what position she used. She just replied, oh....the normal. They all seemed to know what that meant, but I didn't. Even my older sister isn't quite sure. Can anyone here tell me what that is? Is one position considered normal versus any other?

The missionary I guess, that's the most common around I think.
You should ask your friend what she meant exactly to be sure.

Missionary is usually considered normal for m/f sex.

Maybe she said "the normal" because she didn't know how to answer. Maybe she wasn't actually having sex.

Interesting question. My first answer was missionary, too. But I remember reading that the missionary position got its name from some religious missionaries who found that the natives they were trying to convert used a sexual position similar to animals. They taught the converts the face-to-face position, which then became known as missionary. The "animal" position, which we now call doggy, was likely the position used by our evolutionary ancestors. So that may truly be the natural or normal position. Depends on your point of view. Personally, I agree that most people would think missionary is the normal position for m/f vaginal sex; for m/f anal, I'd still say that missionary seems "normal" to me, though some may argue doggy makes more sense.
