So this might not be interesting to a lot of people, but I just sort of wondered what everyone else that goes to private school is forced to wear to school every day. Where I live there's a range of private schools like mine that have dressier uniforms and then those that are lucky enough to wear polos. For guys my school makes us wear a white short or long sleeve button down, with dark grey pants, a black belt, and black shoes. Then my school is strangely serious about us wearing the actual uniform socks so that's a must, and to finish it all off we wear a red tie with the school crest in gold on it and a green blazer. It's best around Christmas since we're wearing green, red, and gold. What does everyone else have to wear?

Well my friend that goes to private school has to wear a navy blue polo with beige khakis. I'm not sure wether he likes the uniform part of it or not.

I never understood why some schools need to have such restrictive dress code.

We had a t-shirt, pants or shirts at my old highschool, and a jacket was optional. In truth, as long as you were wearing one of those pieces you wouldn't get bad looks. Fail to dress adequately? No trouble, sometimes bad looks and people may even get used to it.

In England, or well the entire UK, uniforms are compulsory no matter what the type of school you're at. To be honest, I do actually like the idea of a uniform, and having worn one for well, my entire school life, they aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Having the freedom of choosing your own clothes, honestly, is just more hassle than it's worth. When I was in Sixth Form/when anyone here is in Sixth Form/College, you're allowed to wear what you want to a certain degree. As I personally went to an all girls catholic school, I had to wear a Burgundy Blazer, white shirt either button ups or a revere collar shirt, a navy blue V neck jumper with the school name on it, a tie if wearing a button up (tartan/plaid patterned) a kilt, which was the same pattern as the tie, navy blue knee high or over the knee socks and smart black shoes. Honestly, I like uniforms, I even like my work uniform because I'm so used to wearing one. Whereas, if I wasn't, I'd probably hate it like a lot of people seem to.

I go to a private girls school.
In my school we have to wear a pink shirt and black skirt.
shoes, belts, and other Accessories are up to us.

But it would be nice if we don't wear any uniform ..

I have visited the main private on my side of town and all their shirts had to be fully tucked in with the top button done up
stuff like needing skirts and ties to be a certain length
all seems pretty dumb to me

in my school at the moment we have to wear a navy blue jumper (which falls apart), a light blue shirt, a tie, black pants and black shoes. But next year there bring in suits which i cant wait for!!! However they feel cheap and awful. But i get to wear a black blazer and because i'll be in sixth form a white shirt and no jumper, still black pants and shoes

If it's not appropriate they call your parents, make you change, and give you ISS (In School Suspension) for a week, all day.
And actually they've changed it now, we can't wear shorts, skirts, or dresses shorter than knee-length.

In our school we are not wearing any kind of school uniform.
Yet we get in trouble if we not obey the dress code which is pretty nonchalant.

No unis but we have a REALLY strict dress code. Sometimes I feel like I'll be sent home if I were to take my shoe off to scratch an itch. I think our school takes it too far with the "how much skin should be allowed to show" thing. I mean really...

Haha.. that sounds tragic.

I think in a way I was better off in a uniform, because then everyone wore the same thing each day and I wasn't the only one who likes a certain outfit too much not to wear it :D My outfits in college are really colour co-ordinated... I earlier (and will be tomorrow) wore red trousers, blue hoodie and a red/blue hat; but the co-ordination didn't go all the way unfortunately for me as i was wearing green socks, I really care about that too... I think the clothes I wear slightly affect my confidence, I just feel more comfortable wearing things other people consider stupid; especially the bobble hats, I'd rather boil under it than not use it as part of my fashion symbol.

The only problem is, I think I was always told the reason we have to wear uniforms was
1. So you represent the school. We even had to wear uniforms on trips
and 2. So people's clothes weren't influenced by how much money they have
But the uniforms still cost quite a lot and even more when I kept ripping my trousers...

Haha yeah, the UK is one the few places in the world where making you wear uniforms allows one to not show wealth. Here in Canada and the US it just shows you have a lot of money because you go to a private school.

I used to live in Derbyshire, and then when I finished primary school we moved to the US, but that was something I always though was interesting because everyone has a uniform no matter where you go to school. It generally makes everyone look so much nicer. Thanks for the great response by the way :)

My private school uniform was a white polo and dark navy pants with not so dark strips ( u can barely see it, but it was neat ) and must have black shoes.. Thank god i can buy my own.. -.- , im a fan of shoes, so i was very fancy with the brands, anyway.. I got this black shoes with a white logo on the middle and white stiching the leather. And one of my teachers wanted me to colour it black with a marker infront of her. I refused xD !

I miss my school days .. Uni dressing takes so much time!

I'm in the UK and most schools here have uniforms, including mine.
It's black/dark grey trousers (pants), white shirt, black/brown shoes, a "royal blue" blazer and a blue tie.
But for Year 12s and 13s here, we don't have to wear uniform, we wear what we want. Years 7-11 have to wear uniform.

I live in Australia, and my uniform is quite nice in my opinion. We wear a blue short sleeve shirt and navy blue shorts in summer, with long, light grey flecked socks.
In winter we wear grey long pants with a white shirt. The blazer is quite nice, dark blue, and we wear dark grey socks. We also wear a tie (blue for years 7-9, red for years 10-12) I quite like it. Since I'm in year 12, we get a year 12 jacket that isn't part of the uniform (???) and thus we can only wear it one day a week. (stupid in my opinion)

Please don't jump all over me for what I am saying is what my father has instilled in us. We go to a private school and we have to wear black tie shoes, designer sock black, black pleated pants with cuff at bottom, black belt any dress shirt with black tie with gold crest. When us jocks have a game we wear a special black tie with a gold sports LOGA. Girls have to wear a school issued dress, panti hose and what girls wore 40 yesrs years ago but more up to date, I enjoy it,

I never had to wear one, and I'm thankful for that. I don't know if I could wear one every single day. I understand why some schools have one, but I'm happy we didn't. Having a a gym uniform was bad enough.

I do know other public schools in the area that had a uniform, which makes me extremely happy that I didn't go to them.

we hardly have a solid dress code at my school. it's basically up to the admins or teachers to decide if it's inappropriate.

too skanky for them? no worries, they'll just send you to the PE office and they'll have you change into a gym uniform for the day.

You'd be pretty surprised to find that in Australia, that is THE most standard uniform you'll find across nearly all schools. Dark grey pants (the occasional navy), a button down shirt (can be long or short) of different colours depending on the school, the school jumper, black leather shoes, grey socks and usually blazers for seniors. Some schools have compulsory ties, some don't.. and I'm just talking about public schools here. Private schools go crazy. It's all pretty normal TBH.
