Would you guys say there is a higher risk of STD's from same gender sexual activity as opposed to straight sex, or is this just what the media portrays it to be?

The risks are just as real weather your partner is the same or the opposite sex as you. Just be careful out there!

I donīt think there is a higher risk of STDīs. But having anal sex (opposite or same sex) without the proper hygine may carry some consequences.

While I don't have statistics to form an argument either way, there is a risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections if you are having unprotected sex. Even if you are using protection, if it fails you are in serious trouble. Many STIs do not have a cure.

I think it's the same just make sure to wear a condom each time regardless

I think I did see something somewhere about anal sex and HIV to the effect that the skin of the rectum is not as strong as that of the vagina and is therefore more likely to tear. That would then provide a route for HIV to get in and infect the fuckee if the fucker was HIV positive and therefore the risk to the fuckee is higher than from vaginal sex. Even then that is not confined to gay sex as straight couples can do anal and gay couples can do other things.
None of that changes that the best plan is to wear a condom until you're with someone long term, you've each been tested and you trust them not to stray.

The risks are basically the same for both. The big deal about same sex STD's came in the 80's when the big AIDS epidemic broke out. It was so focused on homosexuals because they were the most affected by the virus first. Then the focus kind of changed to needle sharing drug users. Now days you don't hear a lot about STD's so much. The big deal now is all the drug overdose deaths.

No reason for the risks to be different. One common misconception is that oral sex does not transmit STDs, which is not true

I agree. I do not think STIs discriminate in favour (or against) any sexual orientation.
However, some sexual activities carry higher risk (of some STIs) than others.

I think the risk of hiv is highe but not nexesarialy other things like syphillis. It depends on your region thous i know here we have a syphillis outbreak but things like chlaymidia are relatively uncommon. It depends on the population as much as gender.

ONce a gay friend wanted to do anal with me...I researched on this, turned him down...I let him stroke my tummy and feel my butt over my undies only..
My online reading showed risk of HIV transmission is higher with anal intercourse than vith vaginal intercourse....Gay sex involves more anal than any other modality...so risks for HIV are higher.
