I often ask myself with the amount of people from celebrities on down to the local schools coming out as GBLT,and the fact that coming out is soooo popular these days, how many of the people coming out and saying they are gay or what ever are actually on the level and actually what they say they are and how many are just doing it as a way to get popular,or to hopefully attract the attention of the person they want and then later on proclaim the converted from being gay or bi or lesbian, etc to being straight once they have drawn in the person they are after?

basically I am wondering how many people coming out of for real and how many people coming out are fakes faking it because they see coming out as a fad and thus a way to get instant popularity?

....I'm pretty sure straight celebrities aren't falsely coming out as a publicity stunt...

Agreed. I see no reason for them to do something so extreme, and if so, then it really does no harm in the first place. That sort of thing changes their lives forever, so if they choose to do something so foolish, then that's their choice.

"Popularity" like being bullied by your peers and eventually killing yourself.

nope they just got shunned by everyone for being liars.

Hmm the bullying part,i had that happen and stopped it quick like and in a hurry, with two hook punches, and as to the eventually killing yourself thing ....life is hard we must learn to be harder in the face of adversity!

I was entirely against the idea of (myself) coming out until just recently. Actually came out as bigender today. I didn't do it for popularity- if anything, I was afraid I'd lose friends.

I guess it depends on how your particular community views it, but LGBT are still bullied, harassed, ostracized, etc.

I highly doubt someone in, say, Arizona, or Texas would just come out for shits and giggles if it wasn't really true. I live in Utah, and it's kind of the same deal. Though at least I'm almost positive gay marriage is no longer outlawed.

Sorry you were bullied, but I know many gays who never were bullied or fought back and of course the bullies were scared off.

...it's not the responsibility of victims of bullying to be tougher so that they don't get bullied....
....it's the responsibility of people to not bully people....

...I was never bullied for my sexuality....

I'm pretty sure I've never said that I'm gay, since I'm not...

I was bullied often but for the littlest of things. One day I stood against it, thought you were referring to being bullied.

I don't think it's done for the sake of it, there is risking friends when it comes to it.

O.o did my post count drop by 100?????

Um actually yes it is the reponsibity of the victims to get tougher if not they will just have it happen to them over and over and over.

If you don't take responsibility for YOURSELF no one else will because no one else is required to!

Your first duty is to yourself !

I don't think celebrities would just come out of the closet falsely. Seems like a pretty stupid idea unless you are gay.

I dont think theyre just faking it..........Teenage years are hard for some people, and your kinda trying desperately to be original, different, fit in etc I think some people get really confused about what they are.

Absolutely agree with this. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I was bullied until I was like 14/15, and I actually had some pretty terrible things happen to me. You're a sick freak if you think it's my fault that I was raped, just because I wasn't tough enough to overcome a guy who was years older than me, bigger than me, stronger than me.

Not to mention that he knocked me over the head until I was practically unconscious- wish I was. In fact, he probably beat me within inches of my life.

Are you really going to blame a thirteen year old girl for something like that? Because that's how old I was.

You are to get back on topic now, I am tempted to lock this thread because of a turn and de-railing it has taken as well as a couple of personal attacks, so please heed what I have said.
