I'm 17 years old and I'm unfit but motivated, I wish to join the British army sometime this year but before I sign up and go into selection I want to make sure I can actually do the 50 push ups, 50 sit-ups and the 1.5 mile run that is required. I can do 50 sit-ups with ease however I think I'll struggle with the 50 push ups and the 1.5 mile run as I'm not exactly the strongest or most fit person there is.
So basically what I'm asking for is the best ways to boost my endurance and strength, by the way I walk to and from school which is 1.8 miles every day and I'm going to try to do a few miles jogging every day, I've also started lifting dumbells until I feel like I can't do anymore and my arms feel numb. How long would it take for a person like me to get fit and what advice can you guys offer me? Also can I still eat junk food and keep my endurance up? I don't care so much for losing weight, I just want to be able to lift more and run for longer.
If you have any advice on the British army too or anything like eating plans then please share your advice in this thread as I'm sure that I am not the only one who could do with the advice, thanks!
