is it sexist of girls to expect guys to put the seat down after use? women don't put up the seat after they finish.

It's just common courtesy, I don't see the big deal. Anyway, men are typically supposed to be courteous to women, that's basic chivalry, which was invented by guys, not women.

In the most minuscule and unimportant of ways, maybe, but the fact that it's a man thing is incidental. If women had dongs they would be expected to put it down too. It's a basic courtesy that requires virtually zero effort, and I can't imagine why anyone would expend the energy to ponder the question. If it's too hard then don't put it down, no one's got a gun to your head.

Have you ever sat on the rim of a toilet by mistake though? It's gross. Like Poseidon's sloppy drunken kiss. Putting the seat down benefits everyone, not just women. Unless y'all have to stand up to poop too.

Max, bro, how did you even come up with this question lol? Like everyone has or would say, it's just a common courtesy. And if didn't do it, I'd have 2 females in my house giving me an earful.

It's a common courtesy, just like holding a door open, besides, I'm gonna go out on a wild one and guess you sit down to take a shit, so perhaps you should put it down.

sexist is a pretty strong word for something that isnt a big deal. i think everyone should close the seat and lid when they are done, who wants to look into the toilet all the time?

It could be worse for them. When I get bitched at for this, I respond by saying at least you aren't sitting on a seat full of piss!

We don't really have a bathroom code in our house, we're not really that bothered. Is the seat up? We just put it down again. No big deal.

My brothers are much better now then a few years ago. There were times I wanted to barge it the bathroom, grab it, and aim it in the toilet myself.

I don't know why this is a big deal. If it's and down and you want it up, lift it up. If it's up and you want it down, put it down. Simple.

Exactly. But also, leave stuff the way you found it. So it it was down, you pick it up, put it back down when done

Typically by bathroom manners, guys are supposed to put the seat back down after use. And guys put the seat down to poop , so I don't think it is sexist. It is just similar to how usually men will pay for the restaurant bill rather than ladies.

I've heard it's more hygienic to put the lid down before you flush, if not minuscule germs can float up in the air, not sure how true this is but hey.

Interesting question. I don't think
of it as any code. I think it depends
on the person. Someone who doesn't
care versus one who shares common
courtesy. Is it that difficult to either
lift or lower the cover? U just have to
look before u sit or stand.

Max .. Thanks for this question. Not sexist at all... This situation bugs me too ! Lets see: Really ..bitching about the seat being up ? Listen if your not looking were the seat is before you sit down ( Time required to view if seat is up or down one second or less ) then your butts going swimming .. Guys have to check b4 we sit down...Now I can see if some one don`t lift the seat and pees all over it ...Then there`s a big issue to get mad at .... Remember its just a toilet . Lets all just get along ! LOL !

I must agree, it's terrible when people leave the toilet filthy. My younger brother did that when he was smaller but he's not doing it any more. YAY. And don't get me started about when people don't use the toilet brush...

My mom is the ONLY female at our house and I think when we were younger and didn't have our own bathroom she felt this way with 5 males in the house...it is a matter of courtesy for sure and something that really isn't hard to do after all....respect the women in your life....

I cant see what all the fuss is about, I agree that the toilet lid should be left closed when not in use, with all the other things in life to worry about is it too difficult to lift and lower the seat?
I always close the lid before I flush too, its lots more hygienic.

The rule in my house has always been for everyone to put the LID down after using the toilet. My mom taught me young that it's much harder for anything to fall INTO the toilet if the lid is down.
So, the toilet seat issue has never been an issue at my house. It's always down (under the lid).

I wish my parents would just put in a urinal for me and my brother next to the toilet for my sisters so we wouldn't have this problem. Girls have no idea how hard it is to aim sometimes. If it's dark. If you have a boner. sometimes it just gets away from you lol. Urinals are soooo much better! They are getting rid of urinals all over the place tho in order to make restrooms unisex. I hate it. If they do that they just need to know they will have to be cleaning piss off the toilet and walls and floor a lot more. I hate peeing in public restrooms anyway. I'm a germophobe and don't like touching my families lid or seat let alone one in public!

Haha You should do it. You would find that aiming it from far away isn't the easiest. Especially if it's night time or you have a boner or something.

I don't know why this is a big deal. If it's and down and you want it up, lift it up. If it's up and you want it down, put it down. Simple.

True. But not the easiest thing to do to touch a toilet lid for a germophobe like me.

I have heard that too. I have NEVER put the lid down in my life. Seat yes. Lid no.

Wow. This is a good idea. But I don't think many families do this. Nobody in my family has EVER put the lid down. Maybe my mom for big Christmas parties and stuff. I don't like touching lids or seats or anything.

Yup. Because of transgenders and stuff. More and more places have gotten rid of one mens room and one women's room and have 2 bathrooms that any person can use. So there is no urinals. I'm just talking about the small bathrooms. Not ones you see at a stadium or airport. Every Jack n the box in WA and ID are unisex for example now. Maybe 25% of places,
