Porn in a lot of ways is really the great equalizer when it comes to sex/masturbation. I also was never told to not doing it, my Mom doesnt like talking about sexuality. Maybe Im similar to her in that thing. The only good reason I can think off for "preaching" to not waste sperm at that time, was because the preachers wanted to increase their religious population and wanted their followers to "procreate" as much as possible.
And most religious people still think this way, hence they forbid modern anti-conception as well.

And in reality, sperm can't be wasted. It's an infinitely renewable resource. If they were really worried about wasted fertility, they'd tell girls to get pregnant as soon as they hit puberty. Cause, after all, every period is a pregnancy that didn't happen (that's the talk my sisters and I got, minus the get pregnant as soon as possible part). But most religious people are just as opposed to having sex early too. I think they're mostly interested in not enjoying anything.
