So there's this girl that I've been sitting beside in my astronomy class. I asked for her number in case I ever missed a class. She didn't do well on the midterm and suggested that we study together. The next day in class I asked her if she wanted to grab dinner after. She said that she already had plans with her friends. I took it as a rejection. We didn't talk much after that, but she's usually quiet. Today I got a text from her saying that she wants to study and go out for dinner on Tuesday. I accepted. I'm not sure if this is a friends thing or a date thing. Any ideas or advice?

First, I think she probably did have plans with her friends. So, it wasn't a total rejection. And, second, she probably needs help from you especially if she isn't doing that well in your astronomy class. Third, she probably does like you since she texted you to help her and took up your offer to have dinner with her. I wouldn't call it anything yet other than going to dinner with a friend. It doesn't seem like you've had much interaction outside of the classroom so you need to get to know each other a little bit before either of you decide you want something more.

Pro tip:
When you meet up, if she really took care of her looks, like fancy clothes, maybe makeup, even perfume and stuff, consider it a date. Essentially if she looks prettier than usual, it's very likely that it's a date.
