My cousins have their internet usage restricted at home. When I was living with them I did too, and I had no idea how annoying it was. Basically my uncle setup the router to disable wifi during certain times and to certain devices. None of us, except my oldest cousin, have data plans on our phones. Just wondering does anyone else's family restrict internet in this way?

No. My parents wouldn't have the technical knowledge to be able to do that :P
Even if they did, I have quite a big data plan on my phone so I'm all good.

Nope, same as Endeavour... my parents lack the knowledge to put restrictions. They wouldn't gain anything from it also, since they use the internet a lot.

Using the internet isn't all bad. We need it for school stuff so my parents would never shut it off.

When my dad was living with us, he had the modem and router on time restrictions so that it would cut off at a certain hour and wouldnt come back on until the next day.

Never had that problem when I was younger. I can understand why a parent would try to restrict, esp if they thought it was a serious problem. if it is just a control type of thing then they need to lighten up

Nope, like Mars said I pay for my own phone. So they can’t do anything about that. At home it’s like a utility, like heat water electricity out TV. It sounds unlimited so no reason to limit it. Especially if I have homework or something to do that’s important.
At one time I was limited so I wouldn’t be on line all night, when I was on my dads calling plan, he’d shut me down at 11 pm form the night. I get that.
The internet’s not bad just cause it’s the internet. He may be limiting it maybe cause he only has so much data he can use in a month, or knows some of you guys would be on it all night and not sleep or do homework.
Most home WiFi is unlimited, so I’ll bed he just wants you guys to get some sleep instead of doing whatever all night online

I don't have any time restrictions on my internet access. Probably because my parents realize that I need the internet for school and such. There isn't any financial reason to cut it off, because like what has been said before, most home internet service is unlimited data.

Just change the settings so you can access the internet again. If they find the setting changed, (I doubt they would) just tell them the router might have updated it's software...

Haha I wouldn't want to risk that with my uncle! If he found out that would put me in serious trouble. I'm at my moms now so it doesn't matter anyways. She'd never be able to figure out how to restrict it.

Yes, the wifi was always turned off at my house during the night, and that was only for a little while, maybe a year that we had wifi. I've always had really low data on my phone, not enough for anything really substantial. My mother had a Mac set up to a hardline for what must have been the majority of my life, so the only times I could access the internet was during the day, and since the computer was in a public room, there was no, "inappropriate," activity possible (Hintpornhint). Now the wifi is on all the time, just by virtue of my mom mostly forgetting about it lol.

My uncle said he restricts it because he wants to supervise us during our time online, though my oldest cousin doesn't get supervised. He also doesn't want us online after bedtime, and that rule applies to all the kids.

I guess I get the supervision part but that’s also like an invasion of privacy to right?
And your oldest cousin is how old?
Maybe you’re uncle has a higher level of trust with that cousin cause of age?
Either way, now you’ll be spending more time at his house will that limit your time on line to only homework type of stuff?

Noo thank gosh my parents were never that tech savvy!! xD They deffo would of if they knew how but tbh the password is always on the bottom of the router and unless they change it, it would be pretty easy to reverse it :')

Nope. No blocked websites, no blocked devices, and no time restrictions. I am using Comcast/XFinity for internet service, and I don't know why, but around every 3 months the internet will be down for a day. Sometimes I will try to connect to xfinitywifi (Yes I know it would obviously not work) which is from a neighbor's access point. But sometimes, I just connect to my mom or dad's phone hotspot (I don't have a data plan for my phone).

What would you do if you really needed internet for a school assignment? (i.e. you need to submit a webform, research project, etc.)

I never really had any internet restrictions growing up, other than needing to be off the computer by a certain time for bed. As far as I know, I'm pretty sure I was the only one who actually knew how to access the router's control page anyways :P

Recently got a new one and dad says I'm old enough to know whats appropriate for a 17 year old. He had filters on the other one and the family one to block porn, which was fine with me. And have a 9:00 curfew for the internet

My Mum restricts how much I go online and what I look at. Certain sites are blocked by my router which is annoying. She sometimes switches the router off late at night too.

No restrictions. We have a really fast internet since my parents work with some staff at home and siblings store our massive media collection in the house via NAS (hosting the content for them stop stream in our condos or anywhere etc). I helped set up with the system with my brothers and my parents cannot use any technological devices beyond the 1980's so I don't have restrictions.
