View Full Version : Kindness is it a weakness to you?

Would you say that kindness and compassion are weak traits? To me they are powerful since it takes courage and heart to care, especially if who you care about is not very caring themselves. I wish our society didn't see sensitivity, sympathy, and kindness as weak, and ill-suited especially to men. At that logic then only women are better people and all men have are muscles and beards? Now I do understand that you cannot be kind to everyone, I also know from personal experience that many abuse or take advantage of kindness. But maybe kindness and care are not as weak as some think.
I just wish people didn't see it as weakness, kindness and traits like it.
Your ideas?

Kindness and compassion aren't weak traits. What's weak is allowing yourself to be subdued by another party over these traits.
I believe too much of being kind or compassionate would just fuck you over on the long run. You've got to learn on how to embrace your inner asshole. Find that shit and embrace it. But then again, just like how being too much of a kind person can fuck you up,being an asshole fucks you over too. It's all about the balance in both, which is what creates your ideal personality "traits" to have.
I might be one of the nicest person you'll ever meet. But that doesn't necessarily say that I'll be a pushover. So kindness isn't a weak trait, nor is compassion. But a balance in everything is the way to go.

Not a weakness at all, on the contrary, I consider them strengths.

These are strong traits.
These qualities form part of our Emotional Intelligence.

Lack of kindness and compassion is weakness to me. The easy way out, lack of fortitude. As a person with disabilities, I have relied on people's strength of kindness and compassion. It's the weak ones who are afraid or unwilling to help.

It's actually a strong trait of ours. but as Cheesee said, it's abused by some smartasses. I like to be kind but hate when someone takes stuff for granted

I am kind to most people. But think if you are kind to one person, that person must be kind to you.

There's a point where kindness can lead to a lack of safety, that is a point where one should stop. Let me give an example, say someone attacked you and you defeated that person, yet you decide to spare that individual, only to be attacked again, at that point you shouldn't spare him or her, because at that point the kindness and compassion overlaps with the lack of safety. One must not doubt out of kindness for others won't doubt to strike you down. Kindness is still a great thing though, but it cannot be given unconditionally.

I think of it as a weakness, although I'm not sure why.

I'm shocked to hear anyone say it can be a strength, so many people I know and many in my family see it as weakness no matter what.

To me it's a strength, kindness can win people over, make them your friends too. But you have to know when to step up for yourself if being too kind is getting in the way of what you want to do. Also if someone is bullying you, that's where not to be kind.

Kindness is not a weakness but people who are kind can be seen to be less powerful as they may be more passive and opposed to assertive and so people think that they have power over them.

No they are not weak traits but one should not allow those traits to be manipulated and turned upon them.

I think they are very powerful traits, they have the power to change lives and even save lives. Kindness will earn you respect and trust, and while some people might try to take advantage of your kindness, it can earn you true friends.

Kindness can earn respect and trust?
Not always! Sometimes it can earn a knife in the back literally or figuratively.

It's easy to be a dick, but it takes effort to be kind. So no, it's not a weakness. Quite the opposite, in my eyes.

well a person who acts like a dick is as fake as it gets, and I disagree it takes as much effort to be kind as it does to be a dick.

I guess we have different views then. I have a cynical view on humans, I believe that we're all born like savages, and that we have savage tendencies. It takes strength to overcome what's stuck in our DNA, to become civilized, kind and caring individuals. I believe that assholes are just lazy people who refuse to put in the effort to be civilized and at the very least tolerant of others, if not kind.

I have never denied there is a barbarian lurking in my soul.
But let me point out that on the scale of Civilization the barbarian is in fact a step up from that of a savage.
You have the wrong view on what a savage and a barbarian is,to you anyone thats' rude and a dick is obviously too lazy to act civilized and is therefor a savage or a barbarian.which not true.
let me quote Robert E.Howards Character Conan:
“Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.”
And to be honest with you when the Character Conan said that he was totally right. It's easier for a civilized person to be a dick or a bitch then it would be for a savage or a barbarian to be a dick or a bitch because civilized people are protected from the repocussions of their words and actions where a savage or a barbarian acting like a dick or a bitch would get their skulls caved in quick like.
So no assholes are not just lazy people who refuse to put in the effort to be civilized and at the very least tolerant of others, if not kind, they are infact the RESULTS OF CIVILIZATION and it's laws and rules that prtect such dicks and bitches from the end results of their words and actions!
