One time I was in a social studies class, and we were talking about immigration and illegal immigrants and all that. And my teacher wanted to give us an example of what immigration could be like for those who are of different race, coming here. he said "ok, I'll use Molly (that's me) as an example, for obvious reasons"...
Obvious reasons? I go to an all white school. And I'm like, one of 3 people in my high school who are not white. Everyone said he was being racist and discriminatory.
I know he didn't mean it like that, but the way he said it, drew attention to me and I didn't appreciate being the example in that particular topic like that.
So,I was just wondering whether or not I had a right to be upset over this?

Yes, you did have a right to be uncomfortable, it's not fair to single you out like that. I got annoyed just reading it, in my opinion you definitely have a right to be upset over that.

I agree that teacher is racist, There's something about social studies teachers. My teacher singled out a kid for being poor in a wealthy school, after 3 days he was gone and we had a new teacher. I think they need to pick better examples.
Oh and yeah I would feel uncomfortable too if I were in that situation.

Yes because he could use anyone in the country as a example, we're all from different places.

That teacher had no right to single you out like that. He sounds racist to me.

I'm the ultimate side-with-the-teacher kid (My mom is a high school teacher), but that was a dick move on his part.

God that's a stupid move on his part. Insensitive and thoughtless.

He singled you out in a major way, so yeah, I'd be upset too. It is important to remind yourself that he wasn't trying to be racist, but making a point.
But yeah, it is totally fine to be upset.

He was most likely just trying to explain his point in an clearer way which unfortunately came across as insensitive. You have a right to be offended however. He should learn some tact.

I think the teacher was wrong - and just because you have a different ethnicity you and countless other non white folks could have been born in USA.
However these things happen and maybe not meant as it sounded.
