Passengers hurt as trams collide on St Kilda Rd

AMBULANCE officers treated bumped and bruised passengers after a tram crash on busy St Kilda Rd this afternoon.

Two trams heading out of the city and carrying dozens of passengers including schoolchildren collided at 3.50pm.

A safety investigation has been ordered into the tram crash - the fifth since September last year.

A Yarra Trams spokesman said four passengers were treated for minor injuries on scene, including bumps to the head and sore knees and hands.

Passengers were flung to the ground when a route 16 tram heading to Kew nudged the back of a route 67 tram bound for Carnegie at the St Kilda Rd and High St intersection.

The Z-class trams have been taken out of service pending the Office of Public Transport Safety investigation outcome.

Neither tram was damaged.

Yeah there bringing trams back to edinburgh,
there the most pointless thing in the world they go really slow, the new ones make no noise, and if ur trying to cross the road, they dont stop!! there rubbish and annoying.

i dont know about other places, but in Toronto, the trams (or "Streetcars" as they call them) run actually in a lane on the road. It fucks up the traffic very quickly
