View Full Version : Extreme psychosis after smoking weed?

I know that this is possible but I'm a pretty regular smoker and had never personally experienced it (until two nights ago.) Has anyone here ever experienced extreme psychosis after getting high?
I was smoking from a bong like usual and got more "out of it" than I normally do, and after a while couldn't move and saw memories re-enacted before my eyes. I heard terrifying voices scream at me over and over again. I couldn't control my body at all and couldn't feel if I ran my nails down my arm. It felt like a schizophrenic episode and lasted for about 15 - 30 minutes.
Not trying to scare anyone; this is by no means normal. Just trying to make sense of it and wondering if it may have triggered something, for since then I've had yet another episode, a frequency which really isn't characteristic of me at all.
Meh.

It happens sometimes, if you get super-concentrated doses like that. I never smoke, just about, but when I do... if I take in too much, the fabric of time and existence feel like they're unraveling for me. Grinding to a halt. I feel like I know exactly what's going to happen next, but at the same time, I forget everything else that has just happened. It's scary the first couple times, but I know enough about it now so that, when it happens, I just relax and try to get somewhere quiet and still.
Question: the next time it happened, were you smoking then, too?

I'm a really avid smoker (maybe too much) and nothing like this has happened to me or anyone I know. I hope your weed wasn't laced... or you weren't accidentally smoking spice (synthetic weed). I say try it again, and if it continues to happen, consult a doctor or parent.
Make sure you're buying legitimate weed! Educate yourself if you don't know much about it

If you're a regular smoker you're supposed to have some tolerance built, and that kind of effects generally happen to first-time smokers.
It's not that i want to scare you, but if psychotic symptoms occur after your tolerance is built up, it generally means it's a long-term symptom/damage.
But since you took a higher dose, you probably just went too far.

I've been told by others that it happened to them, but I personally never experienced it.

I've experienced it and it continues to this day , I stopped smoking because of it . To this day I feel high ( last I smoked was July 4th ) and I can cope with it but it's something that will most likely be long term ( years ) for me. Any time I eat , or just think of cannabis I'll feel high and feel like I do t know where I am , it so bad actually I started hearing voices more than normal , I'm going in for a mental health evaluation in a few weeks for it .
I wish nothing like this on anyone else

It seems logical that after you smoke weed a lot then you may experience something such as what you talk of. Smoke weed by all means but stay aware of the fact that it's not harmless. Also weed that has a high concentration of THC can and most probably will be bad for you. I prefer to smoke weed with a smaller concentration of THC for my heath.

I smoke cannabis almost religiously. I smoked it all through high school, and I smoke it now as a result of Cancer treatment and remission.
Your psychosis was likely exacerbated by your own thoughts. When you smoke weed, whatever emotion you're feeling will be amplified. If you can't get a hold of your mind from a 3rd-person point of view knowing nothing bad will happen, your brain can become runaway on a trail of irrational thought and even hallucinations.
I really doubt it's anything like Schizophrenia or Bi-Polar, as you stated you've smoked often enough in the past.
I put it up to simple anxiety and racing thoughts. Take a nice break and next time you light up, make sure you're in a calm, collected state and always keep in mind that if anything occurs, it's only in your mind and will go away as soon as the THC is metabolized, after about 2 hours from initially smoking.

This is astoundingly wrong. THC is essentially non-toxic. The amount required for any sort of Neurotoxicity is in the realm of tens of thousands of joints smoked at once. Subtle changes in THC and CBD content from plant to plant will not cause any physical ill-effects, and the only mental effects it would have is a stronger high, but certainly not necessarily dangerous.
If "Also weed that has a high concentration of THC can and most probably will be bad for you." was true, then people smoking condensed Hash or Kief or Oils or strong edibles would be dropping like flies.

I don't think the weed caused it...
