So, when freshly ejaculated, cum is thick and doesn't seem to mix with water, hence not washing away very easily. There is an enzyme-enabled mechanism for it thickening up initially (one of the two enzymes) and then later thinning out again, almost like it has "melted" (the other enzyme) and my bet is that this is all tied up with the not mixing with water.

So maybe the shower is not as convenient as it first appears, especially if someone else will be using in immediately after you. On the other hand, if there is a delay of half an hour or so, between you using it and someone else doing so, and you happen to have missed a bit, it may thin out and run away to the drain on its own once it has become thin.
