View Full Version : Girls, are your periods as bad as some girls say?

I was in a conversation with a few girls who said periods are the worst thing ever. They say you bleed in huge gushes that flood your pants, and have excruciating cramps, and you throw up all the time. Most girls I know though, say that rarely happens, that the cramps are usually mild and a pad is plenty good to keep the blood from flooding your pants. I've also seen my sisters used pads and there;s only a few spots on blood. If it soaked it all up wouldn't it be red? I just don't think that it could be so bad, and like I said, most girls I know don't think it is, just these two.

The blood gushing everywhere is literally a pain in the ass. I don't get cramps that much. Periods suck because when you're sitting down in school, then you stand up after class it feels like Niagara Falls. I'm on a period right now and blood does get in your pants if you're not careful. The pad helps a lot, though.

It depends on the girl - though I've never heard of vomiting on your period. Some girls bleed very heavily. On my second day, I have to wear an overnight pad (extra strength and longer) because otherwise it will 'flood' my pants. The cramps are sometimes nearly unbearable. I usually have to take ibuprofen every couple of hours, put a hot water bottle on my belly, and wear loose fitting clothes. However, on the first day and the end of the third day to the end, it's not so bad, just feeling like I'm extra tired, I have less energy, and just vaguely sick. I'm not sure how or why you saw your sister's used pad, but it sounds like she has a very light flow or it was one of her last days. You really do bleed, normally my pads are almost completely red.
I think a lot of girls exaggerate and make themselves more of a victim than they really are, but the truth in a nutshell is: periods suck. They are gross and painful.
Hope I didn't gross you out too much. You asked.

As someone who has to change out multiple overnight pads (others are too small) or multiple super tampons every day half the days of any given period, periods can be bad. I don't have many problems with cramps, they're actually pretty rare for me. But my lower abdomen hurts like a bitch, I'm fatigued, I don't want to get out of bed in the morning, and I certainly do not want to go anywhere. Sitting too long hurts. Standing too long requires more pads/tampons. Cleaning up is awful. Taking showers is awful. My periods are usually short, but it's kind of like trying to stop up a huge cut that won't stop oozing blood.

I'm also kind of a bigger person, and my family has a history of menstrual problems, so that's probably part of it. But regular periods wouldn't just be a few spots, so I'm guessing those were either from the beginning/end of her period, or she's not regular yet.

I feel kinda weird going into detail about my period on a forum in a thread posted by a guy but oh well haha. Mine are really terrible, but as said before it depends on the girl. What I hate most about mine, though, is how heavy it is and how bad my cramps are. If I'm at school or somewhere that I can't take any painkillers it's truly a nightmare. I once threw up at school because it hurt so bad and had to go home. That's the only time I've thrown up on my period though, I'm pretty sure throwing up regularly isn't a normal occurrence for most girls... although I guess it could be for some. I've passed out while on my period before, not sure exactly what caused that. Every month my period will be so heavy that usually I bleed everywhere during the night. I'll wear a tampon and a pad but I still get blood in my pajama bottoms or on my sheets. It's pretty much unavoidable. Some months my periods are absolutely terrible and others they are more tolerable. But they're never fun. I don't think they are for anyone.

Periods are annoying.......and you cant even go swimming when you get your period:( Sometimes my stomach hurts but that's just on the first two days....And you have to be really careful on how you sit or you end up staining your pants.

It depends on the person. The blood thing happens to me, the cramps are kinda medium, and I have never vomited while on my period.

Oh, it's so annoying.
I got my first period pretty early, when I was about 9 years old, and I actually cried a little bit, it was really scary to see myself bleeding like that.
Boys are lucky not to have anything like that.
