Nightmares are horrible and terrifying things. Dreams are your brain's way of processing and categorizing things - and if it can't find a category, these things can keep appearing in dreams. They say that writing or talking about nightmares helps you to deal with them, especially recurring ones.
So - what terrifying images have been making you go to bed with the lights on, avoid sleep at all costs?

My last one: I was staying at a friend's house for the night with a few other friends, and somehow we actually went to sleep. In my dream the human race was becoming 'infected'. Not exactly zombies, but maybe something similar. The last remaining humans had set up a base in a small room in a hospital - we had become trapped in the hospital when the infection began to spread. We made occasional supply dashes but the infected people kept catching the non infected humans and killing/infecting them. Someone had opened the door to our 'base' and was about to leave, and at the same moment a group of the infected was shuffling past. They turned. And looked straight at me. One of them snarled and darted towards me, its claw covered with congealed blood, its mouth full of razor sharp teeth and its eyes were just black holes. It gripped me - and I woke up to my friend trying to shake me awake.

Your turn.

lately i've noticed that if i change the atmosphere of my bedroom my sleep is negatively affected. such as if i leave my windows open(gets a lot colder), and if i leave my computer on(the light somehow messes with my eyes or something). anyways i need a stable environment to avoid nightmares

I avoid nightmares by going to sleep and not focusing on them. Haven't had a nightmare in weeks. I'll usually have 1 nightmare at least once a month, or one every 1 month/half.

Just clear your mind and don't worry about anything other than sleep.

I have had so many nightmare that I have learned to appreciat them for the following reasons;

- They are a simulation that can help you concur your fears
- They give you insight on problems you are having deep down
- They can be a great inspiration for art and stories
- They can make you appreciate waking up more.

I have dreams all night every night because of my medication, I must only get an and hour of normal sleep.

Yesterday night I was leading an army through a maze of rooms. each different room was filled with something horrible but we had to press on as we were all being chased by something, well that's the impression I got at the time. Eventually we got out of that maze and ended up on a coastal town fighting foes there, I remember at one point I was asking a soldier for his warhammer and pole axe to go and storm the town. Later i was fighting on a field and my army was spread thin, I managed to break my weapons so I had to fight this guy with a shield, he wouldn't go down!

All night Last night I was at my nans shooting an air rifle out of the window at logs to catch them on fire, I then put one actually in the proper fire and it caused it to like distort and cave in on itself. When this happened I was somehow transported to this brand new football stadium which was massive! it had really trippy futuristic art as well, I remember the guide who was showing us around showed me this screen (it wasn't a TV) the picture on it whirled into futuristic fractals. I'm not sure what happened next as it doesn't make sense, I was either viewing the solar system or cells in a body. It looked more like a solar system as occasionally I saw the orbits of each planet. but if I stepped back it would zoom out a bit farther and the planets would become this slopdge like they were combined. I played around here trying to find out, but I got woken up by my mum for my online college lesson.

Before my medication I use to also have recurring ones about a wave, a massive one that flooded almost everything. I remember it so clearly as I always dreamt it lucidly. But it was always varied. One day I could be sat on my old school field in the summer sun, I would start to feel a slight rain then someone would scream, I looked across to her and people had started to run, in that instant I looked up and there it was. I'll never forget that feeling. it came down on us and I remember clearly being crush against the ground. Interestingly because of these dreams I've somehow managed to be able to intentionally wake myself up by opening my eyes in a dream.

As cheese said it's what's going on in your subconscious mind, Carl Jung explains it well. I've since found out that waves in dreams are suppose to relate to emotions, I'm not even going to attempt to find out what the other mean!

Dreamed that I was driving a car and every time I went around a corned the car kept drifting then it would drift off a cliff which seemed to pop up out of no-where. kept landing in the water and it was "ok" but every time it happened i was like holding onto the wheel all stiff screaming as it fell, then some other wierd shit happened which I cant explain.
