So I recently decided that I want to try shaving down there completely, but my problem is how. Like do you just use a razor and be careful or is there a specific way to do it? HELP!

Be patient and careful, first of all. It's really easy to cut yourself. Use warm water, wash the area with something to soothe your skin, and expect it to be itchy afterwards. You can try using a mirror, though that's never worked for me.

Pretty much what Elysium said. Take it slow, be careful, be prepared for some discomfort.

When I first started shaving, I used my dads mustache trimmer to get it short then I used a razor and baby lotion. works great and makes it way soft for after shaving too.

Definitely be slow and gentle, as everyone else is saying. However, I would NOT use products down there- they could get in and cause discomfort or infection. It's really not good to use anything down there besides water. Even soap isn't great.

Does it stay itchy?

Does it stay itchy?

It will stay itchy anywhere from a couple hours to a couple days after every shave, depending on how used to it you are.

I've been shaving the lady bits for five years now, personally, so it hardly itches afterwards for me at all. In fact, most of the time I don't even notice it.

I used to shave bare constantly and was always having issues.... so after about three years I tried something different. Now, once every 2 months (or so) I take a long bath to soften the hair and then use eyebrow tweezers to remove anything outside the pattern I want. It is time consuming and there is a slight pain factor (local anathesic rubbing pads help) but it stays clear for 6-8 weeks.

Can I take a minute to advocate for waxing? I suffered through years of razor bumps and gross ingrown hairs before I started waxing. It literally hurts for about two seconds and then you're smooth for weeks.

If you do have your heart set on shaving, this is what works for me:

Soften the skin by showering or bathing using hot water beforehand
Exfoliate the pubic area beforehand to prevent ingrown hairs and razor burn
Shave with the grain of the hairs, then if you want a very close shave you can shave against the grain
Use shaving cream and a fresh razor head
Don't push too hard; if you're having trouble with a certain area, try pulling the skin taut
After you're done, apply an aloe vera cream to the shaved area

For the longer pubes i have used scissors then using hot water, Gillette Satincare shaving cream and my Venus shaver it doesn't take that long but you should take your time as you would not be used to doing it.These days i use wax strips to get it all done a lot quicker and it does a far better job and lasts longer.

I've always done it in the shower and I've never felt any itchiness after. My razor has the soap on it (The Intuition Naturals or something like that. It's not the best razor in the world but it does its job) and I just shave it carefully. However instead of shaving in the opposite direction like you do on your armpits and legs, shave in the direction of the hair (after trimming), at least for the first few times. You will still see the roots of the hair and it won't be completely 100% shaved but it will feel more comfortable for the first time.

I just posted this an another thread but here it goes...

When you do shave it, take your time and good preparation is half the battle. Firstly, take a nice hot bath or shower. Hot water makes the skin smooth and hair softer. Before you start shaving cut or trim the long hair first. Shaving itself requires a lot concentration. Use a new blade, and normal shaving cream or shaving oil.

To avoid irritation it is best to shave with the grain. The result is a little less smooth, but you do avoid irritation. Do not press too hard and pull the skin smooth whille shaving. After shaving the pubic area you should wash it with water. Do not use soap because it will dry the skin.

Be aware that when you shave it for the first time that it has a high chance to irritate. It will stop irritate/itching if you shave it reguarly, try to use baby powder to prevend the itching.

Well here are some tips:

~ Make sure your pubic area is clean
~ I use lots of warm water to open up my pores, it just seems more comfortable to shave when you've been in warm water for some time
~ Use shaving cream or shower gel, I personally prefer gel
~ Get a good razor. The quality of the razor is VERY important. You can get easily hurt if using a cheap/bad razor, I highly recommend anything from Gilette Venus.
~ I usually do small and repeated gestures, going from the top of your pubic area, to the bottom (pretend that your razor is a broom and the pubic hair is some kind of dust, so you're basically swiping it away)
~ I frequently rinse the area and apply gel again and just continue shaving without any fallen hairs to trouble me
~ I never had any problems afterwards, and using creams caused great discomfort. Just make sure not to war any skin-tight clothing

Oh and most importantly don't forget to rinse the razor after few strokes, so that hairs don't get stuck and prevent form shaving.

If your pubic hair is rather long, TRIM it. That way shaving will be more efficient and less painful, and the razor won't get jammed.

Hope it helped.
