Last month when I measured my self, I was 5'8.5. Now, I am 5'9 today. My brother measured me, and said I was 5'9 also. I didn't believe it, so I measured myself, and when I kept it straight in the bathroom, it also said 5'9. We used the same tape measure. Could the tape measure be bad, or did we measure wrong? Or could I legit be growing fast?

It all depends how old you are. When I was 13-14 I was growing fast too

I would say that you are growing a bit. That is a good thing.

Why would it be shocking for someone 5'8.5 to go to 5'9???? Seems pretty natural to me!!!

I think it was a question of whether the rate is reasonable. I think I'd expect about 3 inches/year which is about 1/4 inch/month but there is bound to be some individual variation.
If you're looking for sources of measurement error things like wearing shoes or not, slouching vs. standing up straight and the angle of the top of your head etc. are more likely to make a difference than the tape measure.
