So how would you even work out what an idea size would be? Maybe it depends on what you use your penis for a how you enjoy it, so how about a couple of examples.

Masturbation

Girth-wise if it fills your hand that's great. For length I reckon you ideally want it long enough such that you put your fist around it, and move your first to the furthest back position your fist is entirely on the shaft and not covering the head at all. That way as your fist moves forwards it will go over the rim at the back of the head which is sensitive. Beyond that, I don't see that extra size brings any benefit.

Sex

From the man's perspective extra girth may not make that much difference but it is reported that girls get more pleasure from a thicker one as it stretches the vagina more. Length wise, the vagina is a tube of finite length and things open out at the end of it so if you're long enough for the head to emerge from the tube into that space it will have the same effect of stimulating the rim of the head on the outward stroke. As typical vagina depth is 3-4 inches that means 3-4 inches of shaft + head would be fine.

If you feel the need to anything bigger that that then surely it can only be for vanity, possibly to make other people jealous. For this latter case, obviously the ideal size is "a bit bigger than anyone else I meet".
