A BOY of 15 was shot dead in school by another lad because he was openly gay, police believe.
Lawrence “Larry†King had bravely “come out†to fellow pupils.
But when he began to wear mascara, lipstick, high-heeled boots and jewellery it led to bullying from a group of kids in his class.
Cops say Larry was shot in the head by a fellow student who burst in on him and 24 classmates in a computer lab.
The killer fled but was arrested a few streets away.
Larry’s distraught schoolpal Marissa Morena, 13, said of him: “They teased him because he was different. But he wasn’t afraid to show himself.â€
Brandon McInerney, 14, has been charged as an adult with murder as a premeditated hate crime.
Officers arrested the teen close to E.O. Green Junior High in Oxnard near Malibu, California.
If convicted he faces 52 years in prison.
The murder has left the middle-class beach-side community stunned.
Jay Smith, executive director of a local gay support group attended by Larry, said: “We’re all shocked that this would happen here.â€
Larry lived in foster care at a centre for abused children.
Dr Steve Elson, the head of the centre, said: “It’s just a huge trauma here. It’s emotionally very charged.â€
