Creatine supplements amino acids in your muscles that allow you to recover faster while working out so you can maybe do an extra rep or two and such. It doesn't have any impact on running/endurance cardio stuff, only weightlifting type activities from what I've read. Yes you have to drink more water when using it but not like a ridiculous amount, just maybe an extra glass or two. I use it and it seems like I gain more when on it rather than off it but I haven't done a strict comparison yet so I can't say for certain.
Also, if you use it, don't bother with the "loading" phase they'll try and get you to do. That's bullcrap. Just take the daily recommended amount and you'll probably see some results.

Pretty much what Will said, you just need to drink extra water daily. Don't get freaked out by the slew of people scaring you with bad rumors.
