My name is Jackson, and I'm 17 years old. Throughout the last two semesters of school (in other words, the latter half of my junior year and the first half of my senior year of high school), I've developed a big crush on this girl, Cindy.
About this time last year, I had been rejected by a crush that I'd had for a long time, and I was feeling down in the dumps. However, after spending the holidays with my family, I realized that I was going nowhere moping around and feeling sorry for myself. Even before I was rejected, I was still always super nervous and admittedly unappreciative of the good things in life. I decided to adopt a new mindset of being completely relaxed and positive, making sure that myself and those around me were always having a good time.
The first week back to school from Christmas Break, I took that new mentality and put it to work. After about a week, it seemed to catch the attention of a girl whom I'd never seen before. On one particular day, I got into class early, and played with my phone at my desk, waiting for the lecture to begin. All of a sudden, I heard this female voice ask out loud, "how are you so witty?". I thought to myself, "what? is she talking to me?". I slowly turned towards the direction of the voice and found the most beautiful blue eyes looking back at me. Without letting me respond, she added, "like seriously, you make me laugh everyday". Clearly, my newfound attitude had paid off. For some reason, I'd never noticed this girl before (understandable, I guess; my graduating class is over 400 students), but this little interaction definitely made me take notice.
As I stated in the beginning, her name is Cindy, and throughout the rest of that semester and the semester that just ended, she would constantly refer to me as "funny" and "witty", often laughing at my little comments.
Here are some of my favorite little interactions I've had with her:
There was a point where I had to do a book report in front of the class. I never takes things like that too seriously, so I just tried to make it as entertaining as possible. Throughout the entire thing, I could hear Cindy laughing off to the side. That would've been good enough on its own, but two days later (after likely everyone else, including myself, would've forgotten about it), as I was passing by her desk to throw something in the trash, she said to me, "hey Jackson, I really liked your report from the other day".
---
On April Fools' Day last semester, I had said something humorous in class (don't remember what it was; I really don't recall just about everything that prompted her to say something, which is kind of a shame), and she chuckled and said, "Jackson...you're funny".
I jokingly responded, "thank you Cindy....that's not an April Fools' joke, right?".
She followed up, "ok Jackson, you're not funny.....April Fools!"
---
I often over-dress for school (I notice that I'm usually the only kid in a given room with a collared shirt). One day, she complimented me on what I was wearing when I walked into the room.
As class was about to end and everyone crowded around the door, she asked, "so is there a reason why you're dressed up?"
I chuckled and responded, "this is kind of an everyday thing, Cindy".
"Well like, I've noticed your vests and stuff...but yeah...you look really nice..."
I smiled and thanked her.
---
This next story happened immediately after the previous one I listed. I turned to a friend of mine standing next to me and asked if he was going to the dance on Saturday night. I don't remember what he said, but before I could comment, Cindy asked me if I was going (wouldn't be the first time she'd kinda eavesdrop on a conversation between me and that friend). I told her that I wasn't, because I was going to the NFL Pro Bowl (we're in Hawaii), and interestingly, she remembered that on that next Tuesday (I'd ditched school on Monday), and asked how it went.
---
My favorite moment came just recently, maybe three weeks ago. Cindy complimented my attire again, saying "that's a nice color you have on Jackson". I thanked her, but I kinda felt like I should've done more.
She'd been calling me witty, and I thought I should've said something to live up to that adjective. The next day, in study hall (where everyone just kinda hangs out for 45 minutes), she asked aloud to no one in particular, "are you guys going to the Christmas dance?". My fellow classmates (about 8 people) answered all at once, but I didn't answer (figured she wouldn't notice). I was wrong; after everyone else responded, she asked, "Jackson?". I just said that I wasn't going, and she said, "wha....?", like she couldn't believe it.
Once again, I kinda felt like I missed an opportunity to do something cool/witty. I could've said something like, "only if you're going with me" or some other way to jokingly ask her to the dance, just to see what her reaction was. I promised myself that I'd capitalize on the next chance that presented itself.
About 20 minutes of complete nothing went by; everyone was just chilling on their computers. Cindy broke the silence, telling me just like yesterday, "that's a nice color you have on, Jackson". I pondered for a second, before replying, "thank you Cindy....you know...I'd say the same to you, but you look good no matter what you wear". As soon as I said that, the classroom sorta erupted with a big reaction; light gasping, shocked laughter...that kind of thing (I also remember hearing the word "smooth" and the phrase "Rico Suave" thrown around....I promise it wasn't sarcastic lol). I kinda blacked out in the moment, and I also didn't want to look at her after I said that, so I don't really know what Cindy's immediate reaction was. I will say though that in the remaining 20 or so minutes of the class, unlike the previous 20, Cindy was pretty talkative, showing people pictures and stuff on her laptop. I'd like to think that I was the one that started that.
---
One time, I said something funny in class, and another female classmate was walking by Cindy's desk as I said this. After I finished whatever comment, the girl laughed and said, "freakin Jackson", and Cindy replied, "he's so witty....it's the best thing ever..."
---
There's other little interactions too that don't necessarily warrant a full paragraph (her saying hi to me a couple of times when I came into class and also in the hallway, asking how my day/week/weekend was, etc.).
So my question to you folks is, how do you think I should proceed? Do you think, based on what I've said, that she has any sort of crush on me?
