What is chloroform

Asked my friend why he wasn't at school today and he said he got a vial of chloroform from his friend.

What the hell is chloroform? Is it like drugz or something?
I would have asked him more but he said he had to go 30 seconds into the call
Should I be scared for him? I mean without him, no one would sit next to me in math class :,(

But my friend was fully conscious while talking to me on the phone, he said he was huffing it.

Could he have been huffing something that wasn't chloroform?

Doing some g00gling, it appears that it's a legal solvent that used to be used as anesthetic. Some youtube videos show it being prepared using bleach and acetone O.O

Considering it's legality, do you think it would be within the rules of the forum to ask for people's experience with the substance?

Maybe he's only huffing acetone? That's something I've done before. It won't knock you out. It's pretty mild unless you go nuts with it.
