Definitely easier to do it lying down or sitting down, for some reason. Where did you read that? I guess the writer may have assumed most guys realise that touching their penis feels good from touching it to wash it, which would presumably be in the shower, and that therefore naturally the first time of continuting to orgasm would also happen in the shower.

Or maybe the author assumed that all boys would want to prioritise being clean over having fun and would therefore want to restrict masturbating to the shower.

I don't think either of these is true. I discovered masturbation in bed and that is where I usually do it.

I think it has to do with the fact that you cannot use lube in the shower, and your precum, which is a natural lubricant, is washed away when you are standing in the shower. The water is a helluva lot hotter and harsher to your penis than whatever lube you use, if you do use lube that is. So the penis isn't getting that warm/sticky-ish natural feeling that you can get when using lube in your hand, however the orgasm is really intense for a lot of people since you are really having to work your dick.
