Okay, so fast food chains, soda/energy drink companies, and many food and beverage companies get ripped on for causing obiesity which leads to health problems like what John Candy had.

I however, have amazing metabolism. Because of that, I eat a lot of fried food and drink a lot of Mountain Dew, Monster, Redbull, and that garbage while maintaining a decent build. My question is how it can effect me in the long run? I don't gain weight from it, so what's the problem?

I realize that I should know this, but I just don't because I don't know much about health habits and what not. Last year in health, we were basically told to stay away from McD because we would become overweight...

In a very basic way, you know those drinks have a lot of sugar. That sugar may end up damaging something long-term. You may end up with this kind of diabetes where you just need to take a pill. And yeah for McDonald's, I don't think it's unhealthy for you if you exercise

it will probably just damage your liver over time.

it really depends on how much you exercise. and how effective it is. like i will eat a lot of food and i drink a fair amount of redbull, but i work it off. and as i eat a lot and am dropping wieght, safely, i would say i am ok, so as long as you work it off you body and out of your system, you should be fine.

Obesity can affect some people as does being overweight - a fast metabolism and being slim do not indicate good or bad health nor developing problems. Are you getting proper nutrition - protein - minerals.

If so its all good -

Well, this doesn't seem like my old school where they didn't teach us anything about Health and Wellbeing...

Surely McDonalds alone won't make you gain weight, you need to drink a lot of sugar and eat a lot of crisps and stuff for that to happen to. I don't know much else on the subject of health and Weight Gain although it would clearly help me if I did

There is a possibility for long term issues, but I mean come on. Future smuture lol.

However, energy drinks will cause you to have a caffeine addiction. There's no doubt about it. Also, carbonated drinks are terrible for you. However, you balance it out by being active and such. While you're probably okay, I'm sure if you began eating healthier and cutting out the bad stuff two things would happen.

1. You'll find it easier to stay and shape and make progress with working out.
2. You'll feel better.

I swear off pop for months at a time. So after not having any for, say, two months, drinking half a can makes me feel sick. I get an immediate stomach ache. I look at that, and it tells me that it's definitely not good for me! Haha. Once you wean yourself off of it, you realize how it was really just an addiction in the first place.

Like I said, you're probably fine. Making healthier choices does make you just feel better though.

Also, this is coming from a kid who lives off McDonalds hamburgers and sweet tea every fall because of my insane schedule. I don't always practice what I preach.

I eat McDonald's a decent amount and I'm not fat at all. I exercise LOTS so it doesn't effect me too much haha. I'd advise staying away from energy drinks. I used to drink Monster all the time and I used to feel terrible after it wore off. Since I've stopped drinking it I have felt way better. I say eat and drink what you enjoy but in moderation :D

I can't really have anything other than fries. The salads suck at fast food places. :(

There was this TV program about a guy who decided to eat nothing but McDonald's food and was told after a while that he would die if he continued (don't know if you've heard of it, can't remember the specifics).

Their food is full of chemicals and their bread products have been found to contain toxic plastics. Not sure about Mountain Dew but stay away from Coke, all of the chemicals in it would rot your insides, if it didn't also have the chemical that's used to preserve rats in labs.

Some of their foods contain chemicals that you won't be able to burn or poop out, and that is seriously not convenient, however I'm not sure on what quantity will harm you or when it will.

That TV program was called "Supersize Me." I had to watch it for a health class, and to be honest, it was interesting.

As far as your diet goes, all of it will hurt you in the future. It can increase risks for cardiovascular disease and whatnot.

Eating a lot or a little bit much is not that bad. But be sure to have a proper exercise to balance it.

Well, just thinking out loud but...you might not have a high metabolism forever, and maybe its best to have good eating habits before your older and its a lot harder to lose the weight. Will you be able to give it up when you lose your metabolism? I know pop and stuff is so addictive.

A thin active athletic person can still get clogged arteries from a diet of too much cholesterol, fat and sugar.

Kashmir is right. I have had problems with my cholesterol because of this, even though I'm super athletic. Diet is extremely important, if not more important than exercise.

Yeah, I've definitely thought about this. As someone with a caffeine addiction, it will not be easy.

How does all that sugar affect teeth?

Well I have actually never had a cavity in my life. I brush twice a day and floss something like 3-4 times a week.

Sometimes fat's not shown on the outside but it stays somewhere in there between your body organs....And it's definitely not healthy for you. If you eat junk you can get high cholesterol levels and you don't get enough vitamins, probably... Also, when you get older, your metabolism slows down, if you get used to eating like that you probably won't have the willpower to stop and in two decades you won't lift yourself from the couch :(

Update! Okay, so when I posted this thread, I was not by any means healthy. I was all about Energy drinks and chips and that shit. Well, lately I've taken what the few of you have said to heart and actually stopped drinking energy drinks. I still drink Mountain Dew and other sodas, but not Monster and all that garbage that is actually REALLY bad for my health. i've been eating lots more fruits and vegetables and I also take multi-vitamins. I also work out my core.

I guess all I gotta say is thanks! While i was never overweight, I wasn't going down a good path and now I am! So yeah, you guys rock! :)

Salt accumulation, diabetes, liver damage...the list goes on from this eating style.
You still have the time to start to eat healthy! ;)

Glad to see that you've changed it up a tad bit :P

But on topic though, just because you've great metabolism it doesn't mean there's nothing happening inside. The food you're consuming doesn't have healthy nutrients, and bad foods usually would cause you to have more fat cells, which isn't good at all. Cholesterol is another thing to look out for. Also it's a primary reason for the "skinny fat" look :P
