View Full Version : Is it weird/creepy for a 19 year old to date a 17 year old?

So I'm a 19 year old freshman in college, just turned 19 not a while ago and a few weeks over the summer for a while, I got really close with this girl and developed feelings for her and I think she feels the same. However, she's a 17 year old HS senior and due to that, I'm not sure if I should try and pursue a relationship. College isn't too far from her, but still. I really do like her, but I'm unsure of what to do now. It's not like a 20 year old dating a 17 year old, right?

Totally fine. So long as you aren't just after sex that's a completely normal age difference.

Not creepy at all, that's barely an age difference.

That's quite a small age difference, I don't see the problem in that. All I would say is be careful if your country/state has the legal age of consent of 18 or you may have some problems with legal issues, just in case :)

That's a very small age difference, not creepy whatsoever. Hope things work out :)

I think that this would be your main concern.

Its not like a 20 year old dating a 17 year old, is it? I mean, I don't like the idea of much older guys going after HS girls and I don't want to be lumped into that category

Totally fine, and as an added prudent measure, hold off on all sexual activity together and instead take the time to serenade her with memorable (not necessarily fancy or expensive) dates.
Like try folded up paper notes with sweet nothings in them and other handmade gifts. Flirt and just be fun with her as lighthearted, and provide emotional support to each other when needed.
Before long she'll be 18, graduated, and you two as a couple will gain more freedom and trust in each other if you take things slow but meaningful.

I'm 20 and my partner is 17 so what's the big deal?.
To be fair I feel like my age gap is a bit of a stretch at times
but with good communication I tend to forget about it.

I think it can be tough cuz she's under age and if you guys do anything physical you could get in serious trouble.

It's legally sticky depending on local laws, and the lawyers and money if it goes to trial.
But is it creepy or unusual, no that age gap is EXTREMELY common.

I agree with Clara. This is a normal age difference and as long as you aren't just into the sexual part of it, it can be a very good relationship. She will be 18 someday soon and think of it this way --- a 20 year old dating an 18 year old isn't that weird so hang in there.

I see no reason not to try have a relationship with her. That age difference is so slight that it should be absolutely no problem. Give it a try and good luck.

I think it is not creepy or weird for an 19 year old to date a 17 year old. I have to say that I am in an similar situation. I am 16 years old and I wanted to date a 13 old girl.
For me it is not a problem to meet her or having a relationship with her. But for her it seems to be the other way round. She doesn't want to meet me. I don't know why. She isn't texting me or something like that too.
