Gaining weight during puberty?
.
.
.
So, I started puberty at about 11-12, and now I am 13, almost 14. So far I have gained like 10-20 pounds, I am not obese (at an average weight for my age) , but I am very self conscious about my looks. I diet and excersize a lot, yet I somehow gained weight. Is this because of puberty? Will it go away?

Usually a gain in muscle rather than fat during puberty, you may not notice it as you grow taller, however a change in metabolism is also common so even if your eating the same food as before you can gain or lose weight during puberty but i wouldnt worry about it, just be concious of what you eat and how much you are active.

that's normal as long as your BMI is normal... many of them comes from muscles enlarging, especially if you're doing some kind of gym

Don't worry about weight. Just don't get too big. If you're reasonably overweight you are fine. I was overweight when I was 12.5 and I was 150 pounds at 5'6". Then I lost intentionally lost weight when I was 13 and at 14 weighed like 142. Now im 16 and I weigh 150 again because I figured it was healthier this way. Anyway I'm 5'7" now so I wonder if losing that weight by skipping meals stunted my growth in any way. I also had an unhealthy diet, but Idk it was never too bad... Just don't get too big and you'll be fine.

Ur probably gaining muscle mass-unless ur
overeating-puberty usually causes weight
loss-I would just continue to eat healthy
and exercise the way u r doing and don t
worry bout it.

You gain weight a lot due to the fact that you are growing physically and muscular don't worry about it unless you actually start to get fat. What you are going through is normal for now.

Dude if ur weight is not physically harming you, don't worry about it. It is definitely from puberty. Don't be self conscious, it's healthy to be fat. Don't diet, just exercise and stay fit. Wait until after puberty before you start to lose weight or worry about it, it's not worth stressing over now, and it will go away.

Growing taller will cause you weight to increase, in fact that is likely to account for more weight gain than anything else. In fact you look at the BMI calculation you'll note the height variable is squared.
Also, during puberty you are likely to develop bigger muscles - muscle weighs more than fat.
I'd say don;t worry unless you have an obvious "beer belly".

I was on the verge of becoming overweight at age 12, but two years later I have grown several inches and barely gained any weight, so I would say this is just puberty and you will eventually grow into your weight.

At your age it is normal to gain weight, and I'm not an expert in this but I know puberty is a time where you gain weight as well as height. Gaining 10-20 pounds is actually not a lot, and I would suggest you restrain yourself from dieting too much and to eat well so your body can find its balance until adulthood. At around 18-19 is when you have to start being more conscious about things such as diet because your adult body has basically stabilized and you should work towards a balanced lifestyle. First though you need to gain weight in order to reach what would be the average weight for your height as an adult. You shouldn't worry too much about it until then.

Check your height, you might have a growth spurt that another contributing factor to the weight gain. I stopped growing (that I know of) and I haven't been able to gain anymore weight for a while now.
EDIT: I forgot to add that muscle mass weighs more than fat mass. So if you're muscular more than usual, that's another factor. Plus, its normal to experience many body changes in puberty, so accept what's now natural for your body. :)

You grow in height, so it is normal that you gain weight too. 120 lbs for 5' feet tall is not the same as if you are 5'6 ;)

I think gaining weight is part of the deal. I definitely have gained weight, as long as your a bit active it shouldn't be an issue. Plus you generally get taller during puberty as well so it sort of balances out, if that makes sense.
