View Full Version : A bragging place

Frankly, I'm tired of going through TWPR and seeing "500 posts" or "my rep is up" posts. They can get annoying sometimes. Is there another place we could put these?

Or those who have Diaries can make those threads there.

i think johnny's idea has merit, but i honestly don't think its a big problem really, and if it does bother you, just don't enter the thread.

I have noticed an increase in it lately myself but I think it will be the same kind of thing as all the surveys we had recently, it will die down and everything will be back to normal. I wouldn't be a fan of saying people can only put bragging posts or threads in a certain place, unless it started to become a big problem.

I don't see any point in making the bragging posts, but yeah I like the idea that people can stick them in their diaries.. I also hope it will die down like Alex said.

its usually a cycle thing...its just that this moment in time it is at a higher period...as alex said itll die down.

a place for it alone, doesnt make too much sense.

Well I do hope it dies down, I'm sure it will, but it would be nice if they kept to the diaries

I kept mine to my diary, but someone (mentioning no names Valerie :P) made me a thread lol. I find it pretty annoying, but I'm sure it will die down soon, there's not really any need to make a thread for every tiny little thing.

Before it used to be a thread forr every new face you got pretty much, but now it seems every 1000 posts =/

Maybe have a sticky or just one big thread the White Padded Room decided to post count/rep accomplishments?

Gavin
February 25th, 2008, 05:22 PM

See I am not a big fan of stickies for this either. Like it is the practical thing to do in one way but in another it is another restriction on what can be done and not, and that is something I am not a fan of. The WPR has always been a place where you can basically let it all out, I think it goes against what it was made for to say things like "You can only post XX here!".

I personally think this wave of bragging will pass as quick as it started.

You can say the same thing about the photo album and the jokes sticky. I see it as a convenience more than a restriction.

I think that these threads are okay, but people shouldn't make them for every 500 points and unless you're the first person to get 4 rep blocks, you really don't need a thread.. Once someone achieves something that no one else has, bringing it up isn't necessarily a nuisance, but once 50 different people get to 4 rep blocks, there is no need for those 50 people to create threads about how they reached 4 rep blocks.. But regarding post count, I think its okay if people make threads every time they get a new sticky, but they should a) wait till they get to 1,000 points (not make a 250 posts YAY thread, then a 500 posts YAY thread, etc) and b) should ONLY do it every time they hit a milestone (a new smiley, or say, somehow manage to surpass Andy in post count). The idea of a sticky for this doesn't seem that bad btw.

More people joined at that time i guess...it may pass...it may be continuous...we may never know...but lets home its temporary! :p

We don't need a thread dedicated to enlarging your e-penis.

Yes, but take for example the puberty forrums. It is NOWEHERE near as bad as the masterbation threads were comming up, but it's still annoying to have to go through multiple threads of "Isnt this great" and "I did it again". I'm not saying we shouldn't recognise acomplishments, I'm just saying I think its getting a little out of hand

Ok, what about an "Achievements" sub-forum for TWPR? This could be fore anything from post count, rep to results from school or the sports team you play for or a medal for something you do.

But the thing is its a cycle. I promise you it will die down shortly and we will go back to the usual once in a blue moon thread.

I don't think we have anywhere near the amount of threads appearing to warrant a subforum.

I know this is old but I didn't want to make an unnecessary thread. What if you had a bragging sticky for us who like to brag so it could cover more than just posts and ranks and when all of it dies down you can unsticky it

maybe we could have a thread that's "post all your accomplishments here", but not have it as a sticky. That's how GovTeen does it, and it constantly stays up there or people find it when they want to post an accomplishment

Personally I find it sort of annoying that people brag (and yes, making your own thread to drag attention that something good happened to you is bragging) about your rep blocks is kind of tacky (no offence to those who have done it). It's good that people respect you so much, but it really annoys me. And, even more so, most of the threads in the WPR are now those types of threads. Rep is becoming so popular now that those types of threads are probably not going to disappear as fast as they appeared.

That's just my opinion though, and maybe something will be done later down the road. It takes awhile for things to happen here, but when they do, VT always benefits from it! :D

Ok I give up. I think we should have a sticky that is what Zach suggested. It will clear up all the threads in TWPR quite a bit and shouldn't really be a problem. I mean some of the serveys posted in there could be put in the sticky to it should say "Accomplishment and Servey Sticky"

Maybe not so much a bragging place, but an Everything Else forum is what we could use. The White Padded has became that, while it actually intended as a place to "let off some steam and escape from that world," yet we have jokes, bragging, Happy X day!, and other threads without venting.

Not a bad idea boss :P I like that, then the WPR can be used for what it's supposed to be..

That was suggested by Kiros and created by Kiros some time last year (The Coffee Shop) and it eventually got removed because people wanted to use TWPR so much (traditionalists :P)

Well maybe if that forum was created once more, and then TWPR was enforced as a place where you vented stuff, it might work.

Ok, I say that we create a new forum for general discussion (with a fancy name) :)

Agreed, a lot of what happens in a forum is also influenced by its name.

A new forum for general discussion? Ever heard of the phrase "If you don't know your history you are doomed to repeat it"? The last time this happened it went down like the Titanic. For those who don't remember this idea was tried and failed.

I would be very reluctant to support an idea like this based on past events.

I don't think I was here when that happened, but yeah, there's no need for a subforum or anything... Its fine the way it is. As long as people don't celebrate for every other post, things will be fine..

I really don't see a need for a forum but as i suggested before lets just make a sticky for bragging and see how popular it can be then from there decide rather or not we should create a forum

That was a long time ago, and if we do it right, we can make sure it will work. We have at least double the active members we had back then, and I think it would work.
