View Full Version : Body Odor?

People always say teenagers have a lot of BO (especially the boys) and we should take showers daily. Personally, I've never really experienced that. Even on a bus after sports games and in the locker rooms...
Once I couldn't take a shower for a couple days because my schedule was: school, sports, homework, sleep. And when I finally took one I didn't smell bad at all. I even asked multiple people and they agreed. Me, nor my friends mask the smell with overpowering spray deodorant either.
Is this just my friend group or is the stereotype false for the most part?

I think there's a lot of variables tbh. Stage of puberty is one, maybe how hydrated you keep your body, physical condition, diet. People have different odors to. So maybe a combination of all those things. I know salt will keep you from perspiring, maybe you are a lot of salt them?
I know if I didn't shower 2X a day, I'd gross out the neighbors dog lol!

I don't get why some people think that everyone who doesn't scrub every inch of their body at least once a day must smell horrible. There are many different factors that determine how often someone needs to shower. For example, it depends on how active they are, what the temperature is and how much they sweat in general.
In summer I sometimes shower twice a day, while in winter when I'm home all day and don't do anything except eat and sleep, I'm completely fine with showering about once every three days.

Meh I dont know, I mean in the winter I don't need to shower every single day but I feel kinda nasty in the summer if I don't, at least in like the armpits and down there.

You dont smell the smell when you are the smell.

I need 2 showers a day in the winter to. Sometimes 3 in the summer. It can get pretty rank tbh. For me it's some of the meds I take, and I'm always doing to something even in the winter

I don't think I smell that bad. I don't sweat a lot either, though.

I need to bath at least every other day and use deodorant or I stink.

I shower once a day for the most part, and sometimes more. I haven't had to start using deodorant yet because I haven't had the stink yet, but after sports I get pretty soaking wet and just feel gross if I don't take a shower.

Like previously stated, it all depends on the person, temperature, activity, etc. I try to shower once a day at the end to rinse everything off, but if I don't I need to at least wash my hair. I can't stand when my hair is all greasy or has the previous day's product in it. Whenever I play hockey, the locker room odor kind of rubs off on me too, so again, depends on the activity.

My Dad says that there r two kinds of odor
in teenage boys which is caused by hormonal
changes during puberty-one Is body odor produced
by bacteria under arms and pubic area and the other
is an odor caused by the body to mate with ur partner
sort of like a musk odor-it is also in animals.

It depends on your progress through your puberty, the level of activity you were doing, and just that some people sweat more than others. I know I've never sweated as much as my friends, and they've seemed to notice somewhat. Though I do shower every morning, I don't really get smelly until I've gone about a day and a half without one. I know people who have almost the same amount of physical output as me and sweat like a pig, or stay dry as a bone.

I dont know if its a stereotype or not, but I have noticed that some of my friends do have a certain smell to them and some of my friend s dont, but I have come to the conclusion that it has a lot to do with not only their physical hygiene, but their living space hygiene (how well they keep their rooms clean and stuff like that)

I think it depends on the person. Also, I think others can smell you worse than you can smell yourself.

But I've been on busses after sports games and noone really smells bad, nor has anyone ever commented on me. Even after a couple days of physical activity

It may depend on your physicality from the time you wash until the time you will next wash
I smell, but I always think its a nice smell. It doesn't smell like BO - I can't describe it really
Maybe the stereotype comes from the belief that teenagers don't wash and therefore they must smell. But I think as long as you wash regularly anyway, and match it to your activities, then it shouldn't matter.

I can shower every other day and not wear deodorant and be fine but I have friends that smell like 14 hours after a shower.
All depends on the person.

Every persons different. Some may smell just after 6/7 hours of bath and some may go well without showering a week.
