From Wikipedia [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagamihara_stabbings ]:

"The Sagamihara stabbings occurred during a mass stabbing incident on 26 July 2016 in Sagamihara, Japan. At least 19 people were killed and 26 people were injured, thirteen severely, at a disabled care home. A 26-year-old man, identified as Satoshi Uematsu, has been arrested after he surrendered in a nearby police station after the incident with a bag of knives. The assailant was a former employee of the care facility.

The attack was described as the worst act of mass murder in postwar Japan, surpassing the 1995 Tokyo subway sarin attack, and one of the worst crimes in modern Japanese history."

[...]

Perpetrator:

Satoshi Uematsu is a 26-year-old male and a former employee of Tsukui Yamayuri En. He stopped working at the facility in February. Also in February, Uematsu wrote a letter to the Japanese House of Representatives advocating for euthanasia of the disabled with the consent of their guardians. The letter was specifically addressed to speaker Tadamori Oshima.

In it, Uematsu spoke of his intention to eliminate "hundreds of disabled people" and wanting the disabled to "disappear" for the sake of, among other things, world peace and the prevention of World War III. The manifesto included both his name and employer. During this time frame, Uematsu posted to his Twitter account that he expected he might be arrested.

He had previously posted tweets about Japan being ravaged by radiation poisoning and AIDS. Sometime in February after delivering or attempting to deliver his letter, he was involuntarily "hospitalized", but was released 2 weeks later."

I heard that on the news. Really horrible I didn't understand why authorities let him go after being taken to some institution for two weeks as it seems quite clear that he was disturbed and potentially dangerous.

I also love Japan and adore the peaceful culture but it's not like mental health issues stay out of Japan.

My highest sympathies toward Japan. I have been saying this for years that we need to do something about people with clearly dangerous intentions.

They need to go. Same with all the recent terrorism. Most of the ones doing these things are known to the police. This is terrible and needs to change. Sad that this incident doesn't get as much attention because it's not in the western world.

I am sick of most news in the USA being only about america unless it's an act of terrorism or a sickness that possibly could infect where we live. The majority of people only change their profile picture or give out a #PrayFor(blank) tweet when something like this happens, even the politicians who have the power to do something serious about it. Not that it's completely wrong to do that, it's just that we need to shift our attention not only to the things affecting us, but everything going on in the world today.
