Hi guys, just a question. I live in Ohio, which is (usually) a pretty cold state due to its northern location. Most of the guys in my class and the guys i just see walking around are pretty hairy, like legs, arms, stomach, chest, what have you. I recently took a vacation to North Carolina, where I was at a little-known beach, so not many tourists around (well except my family and I) and nobody there was hairy at all. My question is, do you think body hair growth during puberty is affected by the climate you live in?

I think its more affected by your heritage. For example, someone of Italian or Middle Eastern decent will have more hair than someone from Asia or something. Like, my family is Italian and I have alot of hair, but New Jersey isnt an exceptionally cold state.

More genetic.

Well I live in Minnesota where it gets cold too. I see no difference in hair growth from anywhere else. Like Jay21 said it is more heritage.

I do think it is affected by religion, culture, and social norms. In the Western countries like the US society says that hair is bad you should shave everything. In the Eastern countries hair is the norm and more acceptable for everybody.

Hmmm, I hadn't taken culture into account. I agree with everyone else though, I knew it was strongly affected by genetics, but I wanted to know if climate was a catalyst. Probably should have included that :P

It's pretty much all genetic. Here in Canada we have a lot of people who both do and don't have lots of hair, and I haven't really seen this sort of pattern. Maybe more people trim or shave in certain regions where it's warmer but I don't really know.

Probably more genetic than anything. Some do say that hair and fingernails grow faster in hotter climates, but the affects are minor.

I'm hairy. Scotland is not known for being warm. Though I've been told hairiness runs in the family!

I think it is determined more by
what nationality u r other than where
u r located.
