Hope this doesn't offend anybody but I've always wondered what it feels like if your parents were overweight. If they over eat and rarely exercise does that rub off on their kids? I mean I know it can, I'm just curious how some kids deal with it.

Do you talk to your parents and explain that you don't want to be unhealthy and eat too much and live a sedentary lifestyle?

If you are overweight like your parents are, are you cool with that or do you dislike your weight?

If you are a healthy weight (but your parents are overweight) do you feel like you could someday be overweight like them?

I suspect a parent leading an unhealthy lifestyle will run off on their kids however this does not mean overweight parents are bad parents. There are other factors such as genetics etc etc and a parent can eat their own weight in chocolate and still make sure their children eat healthy and get exercise.

My dad lost a lot of weight because he was seriously close to a life or death medical situation, but my mom has been overweight ever since she had me. I'm considered above the average weight for girls my age and height, but I don't really give a fuck. I wouldn't consider myself obese, I can still exercise without complications and I don't eat a whole lot between meals. It's just the way I'm built, and even though my dad has lost a lot of weight, he's the same way.

My mom looks very anorexic. She weighs around ninety pounds, but I don't think she does it on purpose. She is just too concerned with other things to eat, like smoking and doing drugs. She is always hanging around this guy, who is always at the bar. Her skin is turning, like, a greenish color. She looks older than she is, and she probably has a very bad liver.

I guess my dad is pretty much normal.

My dad isn't overweight but my mom was extremely overweight.

My mom was from a stereotypical southern Baptist family which means they had a typical southern diet. My mom tried various health methods throughout the years but she never stuck to them. She went so far as to get weight loss surgery but she gained it all back after her pregnancy with me.

Believe it or not, I gained all of my extra weight from constantly taking medication since I was six. I'm actually a pretty active person in general.

My dad's got a bit of a beer belly lol despite being more active than the rest of the house combined. My mom has never had a problem with her weight (outside of her usual "ZOMG, does this dress make me look fat?" nonsense) and she does exercise from time to time. I'm really underweight despite having regular eating habits (I don't have an eating disorder).. I guess it must be my metabolism.

My father's significantly overweight. My mom isn't thin, but I don't think she's considered overweight.

Do you talk to your parents and explain that you don't want to be unhealthy and eat too much and live a sedentary lifestyle?
No. I struggle with eating, so eating too much isn't really a concern of mine. However, I am very lazy :P But I do get more activity than my father.
If you are overweight like your parents are, are you cool with that or do you dislike your weight?
I'm not overweight; I'm on the lower end of average for my height.
If you are a healthy weight (but your parents are overweight) do you feel like you could someday be overweight like them?
I'm terrified of it, yes.

I feel that way, but if I keep playing sports I won't.

Our whole family is of normal to maybe slightly above what health charts so as normal but I think the charts are ridiculously low. Also I think a lot depends on what a family eats such as loads of starchy foods like Mac & Cheese and those type of things and fatty foods and loads of ice cream that type of thing. And not eating good fruits and vegetables and a balanced mixed diet.

Sometimes I joking with my mom about food or health issue and sport. But it's different with my dad because he seems never attracted with exercise or sport.

My family is not over-weight, but I have an aunt who is. She started gaining weight after she had her kids. Her kids were always chubby when they were little. Nowadays, she weighs at least 200-300 lbs and her daughter who is in her 20s and lives with her does too. Very unfortunate because I know it's going to cause them health problems but it's so hard to loose since they've been that weight for so long.

No...not really. I mean they might be a few pounds overweight...but I think they are both generally healthy and in good shape.

My Dad's lean and muscular...he doesn't do healthy stuff or work out just has good genes I think. All people in my family are actually rather skinny although mostly eat a quite unhealthy typically Southern diet.

Nah, not really. Mom's skinny cuz she's a vegetarian and dad's always tended to put on weight but he runs to control it but still he can't get rid of the spare tire.

Mom isn't but my dad is starting to get a beer belly. My siblings and I work out several times a week, so we're in good shape. :)

My dads whole side of the family is overweight, it's a little hard to believe that they ALL have bad habits so there's probably a genetic thing somewhere. He said they all used to be much skinnier when they were my age (and I am) so maybe I will buy I'll try not to.

My parents are slim but my grandma was overweight & my mom felt uncomfortable in her childhood. Once she confessed to me she was ashamed of it. I feel sorry for my mom but weight means nothing. A person doesn't become worse if s/he weighs a lot.
