Would you date someone older or younger than you and what do you think is an acceptable difference? (Assuming straight people)

regardless of sexuality, age difference is unimportant. maturity i think is more significant for dating so adults aren't a problem. granted a 13 year old and lets say a 21 y/o is creepy but if it's a few years, it's not a big deal imo. I'd date someone younger or older depending on how i feel and the circumstances.

I would date older guys, but not younger. My parents are almost 10 years apart. I wouldn't date someone that much older though... maybe 5 years apart at the most.

I would date older guys/girls (3-4 years max). I probably wouldn't date a younger guy/girl because of maturity reasons but you never know.

My boyfriends is almost 2 years older than me. I think I identify with him more than other kids my age. I've been with others older, and I'm ok with that also, as creepy as that sounds. Not grandpas but some guys idk, I think I get along with them better when a bit older. So maybe 10 years I'd be cool with

I'm of the opinion those under 16 aren't mature enough to be dating anyone, but at most 15, with 2/3 years older/younger (but not younger than 15) being the limits. I don't want to mother no childish boy!

I have dated younger before and would date older but wouldn't if the age difference is too big. Later it will probably matter less.

I would probably date someone as much as 10 years older. So, 31. Fuck I'm old.
I can't really go much younger though without it being illegal.

Honi soit qui mal y pense, Clara.
I dated when I was 13. We went to the zoo, held hands, sat on a bench and ate snow cones. Mom dropped us off at a movie. Those are dates, too. To me that's perfectly normal and healthy (except in some countries with a screw loose about sex such as China where women who have sex before marriage have been termed 'degenerate' by the party. Notice those are all very male dominated societies.)

Given that you've got the wrong end of so many sticks you could build an upside down forest...
Reread my post leaving out anything remotely sexual, as that was never implied and came entirely from your mind. My point still stands.

up to -2 if they're mature, and +4 if they're willing. I honestly wouldn't mind dating somebody older, it would mean I can trust them more to be more loyal/honest/mature about it, but not too much older because that kind of shows the need for attention and validation, which indicates personal problems. Too much older means like +15 years for example, when you're basically an entire generation apart or even if there's a whole phase of life between me right now and the person. Like really, it gets a bit weird.
Regarding the younger ones, it can be alright if they're mature. I guess the main thing I look for in that is somebody to mentor and love and to care for. It's a kind of a fatherly thing if they're young enough, but not in a pedophilic way, rather in more of a position of wisdom and mentoring kind of manner. The ones the same age as you though are probably the best suited. Roughly the same maturity, same level of education and experience, and it's also kind of more socially acceptable (especially if you're younger).

I am going to meet a girl in my summer vocation. It starts in two weeks. Im am 16 years old at the moment and she is 13. I don't know her birthday but I could ask her when I chat with her next time.
I would have no problems with dating a girl that is older than me but I don't know such a girl.

I would not date someone much younger than me...only one max two years...this will probably change once I'm older cuz then those younger than me would be more mature and not just kids.
I have no problem dating older...really have a thing for older guys.
Basically I'd say if I like someone age doesn't matter...

My gf is only half an year younger than me, pretty equal :p
I'd go for 18-21 there are still significant maturity differences. between years.

My current boyfriend's almost 3 years older than me and I think we make a really good match, but at my current age I wouldn't (hypothetically) date someone older than him. Nor would I date someone more than a year younger, but that's just because a year can make such a HUGE difference when you're as young as me. Generally I really don't have a problem with age differences. For example, with 23 I could see myself in a relationship with someone who's anywhere between 20 and 30 years old, maybe even younger or older if we click.

SethfromMI
July 5th, 2016, 10:25 AM
it depended on the age difference. being 18 now, I wouldn't date someone younger than 18. as far as the exact age difference, I think it would depend more on if I liked the person and they liked me. if we wanted to make it work and we were happy, that is what counts

I would totally date older guys. As it is, I have an insatiable crush on a much older man. It's pretty scandalous!
I'm very intelligent, and I feel like he's the only person who treats me like I'm intelligent. It's a turn on for me that he and I can have such in depth conversations about mature topics like philosophy and stuff.

I'm 17 and I'm the right if the part where I can't go really younger or older. Older is illegal and younger is creepy. But I would say older because they would probably be more mature and expirenced rather than younger with less expirence and maturity

I agree, I don't know anyone older and I am not dating but I do , I guess, have fantasies about being with an older guy, like in his 30's I just think they are more hot than boys.
I know it's totally wrong but I still like to think about it. Boys are awkward and weird with dating and sex stuff and I;m to young to be "in love"
I guess I just want to play now if I could and a older guy seems like it would be easier without drama.

The guy I crush on is 38. He's mature but he doesn't come across as like an old man. Lately he's been teaching me how to cook, so I find it really hot that he's a jack of all trades and can literally have a conversation about anything. Boys at school can't hold conversations like this, so I don't find myself getting intellectually stimulated the same way that I do with my crush.

Depends on the ages.
If it's a 13 year older, I think no more than two years difference.
If it's someone 18+ than any age difference is acceptable imo
I know people who are 45 that are dating 19 years olds
me, im 21 and my bf is 37

I would date someone 1-2 years younger than me or 1-2 year olds than me. When I turn 16 only a year older, because I'm not dating an 18 year old as a minor.

Well im dating a 13 year old and im 15 but that's not a massive diffrence but the older you get the less the age gap matters i know a couple thats happly 30 years apart. It may sound weird to us but its natural to them

I very much see the appeal of this and would love to meet an older guy! sadly, most teenage boys are just not intellectually stimulating at all, though I have hope that'll change when I get to college.

i just noticed this post, so forgive me for taking so long to reply...
who we care about should be our own business,
but society is all about controlling others, so for the next 3 years,
please be careful. When you are 18, it will be nobody's business to
interfere, and you can do what you want, and others can agree or disagree.
It is good to find a positive relationship in a world with many negative ones.
Just please be careful, for now. Peace.

I have dated people both older and younger than me. The youngest I've ever dated/been with was a year and a half younger than me (I was 20 he was 18). When I was 19 I also dated an 18 year old briefly. I've never dated anyone more than a year older than me.

Currently with an 18 year old, I've just turned 22. He's very mature to be honest and about to turn 19. I still get a bit of a hard time from my mates for it though. I'd never go younger than 18 now though, we're quite settled so I can't see it ever happening either.

Around your age I'd say a good rule is around 18 months either side, but a year 10 and year 8 might be pushing it. Personally I don't use age to determine compatibility, but when we're younger small gaps are amplified. Just make sure they have maturity, and understand the weight of their actions.

Now, I would date only someone my age plus or minus a year or so. A lot more depends on personality. But it also depends on your age. So someone 16 wouldn't want to date someone 14, but someone 26 would date someone 24. I think once you get past about 20 it probably makes less of a difference.
