WhoWhatWhen

I'm starting school at a new school this fall, which I'm pretty excited for. The part I'm not looking forward to is talking to new people. I'm pretty shy and socially awkward and usually kind of scared when talking to new people. Can someone give me some tips for this. Especially if you are more talkative, how do you talk to people and keep a convo going? Thanks :metal:

I try to find out their interests (sports, anime, etc) and if you and the person you're talking to have something in common, then talk about that :)

This. I also tend to find it easier to find a group that sort of fits my interests, talking about them, and then just hopping in.

If you're talking about high school, I wouldn't worry too much. It's downright near impossible not to easily make friends at high school, since the way high school is designed encourages social activity amongst the students. I'm starting at uni, and that's a far scarier thing than high school, trust me.

Just be yourself and there will always be at least one person that wants to talk to you. I went to high school for six years and I promise you that I never once saw a single person without any friends.

great advice. maybe the school will have some clubs you're interested in and you can join one. a great way to meet people cause you already have something in common. you'll probably meet their circle of friends that way too

Hi there,

There is some excellent advice here above. There will certainly be someone in your new school who will be share the same interests as you. As said above, by joining clubs/societies and joining lunchtime or after school activities will definitely help you find someone who you will get along with. You never know, you could just walk up to someone at random, start the conversation with "hi" and you will find out you have a lot in common.

Good luck in your new school :)

Yeah be outgoing and not afraid to take the first step and try to get to know people. You will be fine.

Well, I'm more quiet, and I'm also going to a new school, that I will know no one at. Just find some common interests with someone, talk about that and make friends, that's my plan in HS.

Talk about things relatable (ie current events)

I goingbto a new high school next year to. It is kinda scarry in a way. But I also have some friends there already. Not knowing anyone.....would be really scarry. But I've also changes schools into a new city before and not knowing anyone at all. It's hard, but I got through it.

Just be yourself, and stay calm. Try and meet someone, or a group of kids you think you might like. Just kinda walk up calmly and say hi. I'm "state yiur name" kinda new here, what's your name.

Stand straight, confident, keep your head up, keep eye contact with who your talking to. People will for,ma positive opinion of you if you show confidence, and they'll believe you and trust your being genuine and honest with eye contact

Good luck
