Hi there, to get a photo beside on the side of your posts (they're called 'avatars' by the way) go into User CP (top left) > Edit Avatar > and then either choose from the ones that are there or upload your own. Bear in mind there is a size restriction so you may have to shrink your own photo down - let me know if you need help doing that :)
