Hey guys! What do you think about the corruption in the USA?

I think the corruption is terrible and is really harmful for both American citizens and the rest of the world.

Ways the corruption harms US citizens:
1. Wealth inequality
2. Expensive private healthcare
3. Lack of basic common sense gun control

I don't see how pumping money into politicas makes people loose their common sense when it comes to gun control but okay.

The healthcare is mainly because the republicans don't want it to be free like in any decent country. I don't get why healthcare for everyone is a bad thing.

Come to Serbia and the US will look like it has no corruption. Here a strategically placed bribe solves all problems, literally. You can even bribe yourself out of mass murder. Not to mention about having powerful friends...

Because they get money from the NRA that dosen't care about their commen sense, only getting as much money as possible for those they represnt.

Because the rich don't want to pay for it.

I never said the USA was the most corrupt in the world, but it is one of the most problamatic. The USA has a population of over 300 million people affected by the corruption and sometimes other countries are affected, like Iraq.

Hey guys! What do you think about the corruption in the USA?

I think the corruption is terrible and is really harmful for both American citizens and the rest of the world.

You may not know of my dislike of the US in some broad areas, so I'm just saying it now. That said though, that it has corruption is not a defining characteristic of it. Rather, I'd be pointing to ideas that it deserves some 'world police' status, general near-constant preaching of 'FREEDOM!!!!111', and other stuff. Sure, I'm with seeing it as having more corruption than most countries, but it's not ground for singling the US out as the lone corrupted state in whatever way.

Ways the corruption harms US citizens:
1. Wealth inequality
2. Expensive private healthcare
3. Lack of basic common sense gun control

Point 1 is a thing that happens in most countries at least, as I said above. It's not a unique characteristic of the US.

Point 2 I can go with (we all know Breaking Bad wouldn't be a thing if the US had Canadian healthcare at the least).

Point 3 may be an exaggeration for some regions of the US, but overall there is a serious problem when you have more than one mass shooting somewhere per day.

In greater serious, there is no reason to presume that political lobbying is necessarily bad.

Lobbying allows our political-representatives to access deeper information about the state of a given industry. It also tempers any hypermajoritarian bias, which might otherwise be harmful in the long-run.

Issues arise when it is clearly skewed in the direction of one interest or another, such as a lot of healthcare lobbying.

I'll add that I think there could literally be a civil war in the US, if strict gun control comparable to Australia was enforced.

Now that you touched the subject, it's pretty funny when you think that Brazil, a country riddled with corruption, has laws against lobbying. Not that the laws are ever used, but a country where it is legal has fewer problems that a country where it is illegal.

...You guys think the US is bad? Really?

What would you think of an expansion of Medicaid funding instead of free healthcare?

This is a good point - I feel that we discuss the US far more than we should be, taking the situations of other countries in the world as well.

Maybe the US is actually ruining the world but at least it's not worst than the corruption in most of other countries.

Israel is quite bad, which is particularly deleterious due to the barrier it sets in place against peace with Palestine - who are even worse, I might add. I've lived in both America and Israel, and the two don't even compare.

From experience in other countries... the US does not have as bad of a problem comparatively. However, this issue is definitely getting worse and I think that we need to strive to preserve American integrity, something that is fairly unique to this country and it's wealthy puppet-states. I'm not against lobbying, but it gets out of hand when the alternative viewpoints are blocked out simply for not having as much money.

Here's an interesting map I found, the lighter the blue the less corruption:

I think we can all agree that any government with some kind of concentrated group has power is going to be somewhat corrupt.

Power corrupts. It's true.

Let's see, the USA has safeguards from corruption and even thiugh it exists, I think it's beaten down to a minimum. Serbia on the other hand doesn't. The littke laws we have in place are enforced based on party lines and exonerations are sold to the highest bidder.

Well the important thing is that it is getting worse. Us Americans are used to a certain level of integrity in our system and we like to uphold it. I know that corruption is much more prevalent in the world. Following Indian politics has shown me that we in the US are no where near rock bottom. But it's much better, in my view, to prevent/mitigate problems before they get too big and metastasize like a cancer.

Something I just thought was funny, in the USA, kinder eggs are banned for safety reasons. But high powered automatic large capacity guns... they're fineXD

no, it's just ironic to spend all this time deconstructing these perceived inconsistencies from your cell in the reeducation wing.

I remember when SOPA was news and all the Euros with witty one-liners about FREEDOM - it seems the tables have been turned now that Europeans are literally in prison for hurting Mohammed's feelings on the Internet

Percieved inconsistencies? How is the banning of a candy enjoyed in most other countries banned because of safety reasons but any discussion about restiricting the type of guns available is shut down.

Ya know if a candy loving kid reallyyyy wanted a kinder egg they could get one;)

Why am I in a reeduction wing?

I am assuming by Euros you mean Europeans? Are you upset Europeans were commenting on you guys trying to pass SOPA?

Ohhhh I assume you're referencing hate crime laws?

Well, is saying that Europe should stop letting the migrants in due to a crime increase and economic strain a hate crime?

Islam criticism in the West has nothing to do with the refugees. Europe isn't really allowed to return refugees once they touch the soil of the nation due to international law anyways. (That being said, I believe that they should be spread around. US, Gulf States should pick up more of the burden).

Usually hate speech is considered to be misanthropic ideas.

the point I'm trying to make here is that, while I think banning Kinder eggs was excessive, I also don't really give a shit. it's one of those things that affects no-one but somehow brings endless amusement to a certain set of Internet comedians.

I'd also venture to guess that Kinder eggs have actually racked up a higher body-count than people typing mean words on the Internet. young children can choke on small toys, after all. the pantsuited scolds who run the EU feel the same way about WORDS.

And young children can find their fathers hand gun and blow their brains out with it, but gun debate aside....

I also don't really give a shit.

Kinder eggs are pure happiness!!! I literally had one yesterday:cool:
