Interesting. It seemed like Obama was leaning towards Sanders at first. What do you all think?

Obama was always for Clinton. Anyways, Sanders should back our now. America can't afford Trump.

I'm assuming Obama and the DNC are going to try to essentially buy Sanders' backing-out and offer him something he wants in exchange for it.

Sanders wants to influence the direction of the Democratic Party platform at the convention.

It's more important that they have a winning centrist platform than a losing leftist one.

He will be hesitant to back Clinton because for the last 4 months he has been campaigning against the corruption of her and the Democratic establishment. His electorate would consider it a pretty huge middle finger for him to just turn around and support her. That being said, this is politics and he knows as well as anyone that Trump is clearly the worse option. Plus the democratic primary has not been nearly as divisive as the republican one, so it is fairly likely that Sanders and Clinton will be on good terms after the convention.

Sanders is also getting old, and the likelihood is that he won't ever be in a position as strong from which to bargain for influence, again.

They should have thought of that before rigging the thing for clinton. Also I just want to point out she hasnt technically won the nomination yet and could still be indicted

Obama was always for clinton buddy! He just never made it official. He was like 'we need someone with experience' and a 'good foreign policy'

That's the same reason why a lot of Republicans are backing Trump. Here's a thing with the Republican side. They had I believe it was 21 candidates for POTUS. Eventually, it got down to Trump, Rubio, Cruz, and Kasich. It was obvious Trump was kicking ass but it would have been probably different if people voted for the second winning person. But, they put their votes towards Rubio and Kasich.
Now, the Republicans pretty much have to back him because it either him or Hilary Clinton. Which I honestly believe would just be another Obama administration.
The downside of a two party system.

I'm fine with another Obama term. While I believe the Iran deal was flawed, on the whole I believe he got his act together this term. I also look forward to a Clinton peace initiative between us and Palestine.
