It's time for me to start fresh and change myself, to set out on a enw path. So, I'm going to get rid of most of my friends, in hopes that doing so will enable me to change who I am.

Depending on who they are it might not be a bad idea.

Before I start throwing advice around, What do you mean by change yourself and why do you feel your friends would get in the way of that?

Hope everything goes well! If they're bad friends you're making a good decision

it's a huge step so you have to be really sure about this.
if you feel your friends are bad for you getting rid off them might be good otherwise just try to step away from them gradually while building your new life cuz it might stress you out too much otherwise.

By change myself I mean I need to change my ways. IRL I'm kind of a pretty big jerk, I have a gaming addiction which are all things I need to change. However, I doubt I'll be able to change my core as long as I'm still tethered to the past and as long as I let it rule me. That's why I'm trying to move on, so that I can change and move on as well, and therefore become a better person. I just have a feeling that this will work.

I am. I've already let my friends know how I feel, we've discussed it, and it's all arranged. Thanks for the advice though :)

I don't think I could ever do that. My best and oldest friends are a part of my life that it would be very hard for me to unfriend them. But, all of us are different people. I wish you the best of luck.

I actually did the same thing you are doing now. I wasn't necessarily a gaming addict but spent a fair amount of time on my Xbox and it got in the way of my social life and worst of all, school. I had a few friends I had for 12 years at the time but because things started getting worse I decided to break contact with them. I started hanging out with people that didn't upset me everyday and we are still friends today. I am actually going to live together with two two of them in a few months. Sometimes a big change is what you need. Best of luck in the process of bettering yourself.
