When you get one of those group or semi group physicals in school how far do you have to undress? Do you have to undress at all? Does anyone see you in a state of undress besides the doctor/nurse?

At my school girls are told to wear a two-piece bathing suit under regular clothing. The physicals usually take place after school gets out in late June. As we arrive we're ushered into a classroom and told to undress down to our bathing suits. We then line up in the hallway and wait for our turn to see the doctor in another classroom. The other girls, the nurse and the doctor are the only people that see us.
My brother has the same experience except that they wear boxers/underwear instead of bathing suits.
If you keep your socks on they won't make you take them off until the doctor is ready for that part of the exam.

Never had that experience. My school doesn't give physicals. We go to a doctor for that.

I've never had a physical like that. It's always been at the health clinic or my personal doctor.
The nurse usually has me strip down to my boxers and then the doctor usually check things over and pulls my boxers down for a couple seconds to check my testicles.
I've never heard of a school doing group physicals. Maybe it depends on what country you live in

I live in New Jersey. I thought this was fairly common. You have the option here of having one for free provided by the school or you can pay to go to your own doctor as long as they use the schools physical form. You're not actually examined in front of anyone else.

The last time I had a school physical was eighth grade and the most we had to do was pull up our shirt enough that they could check for scoliosis.

My school doesn't do sport physicals at the school. You have to see your own doctor and he/she has to fill out the physical form and sign it. Then you have to turn it in to the school nurse.

I get my physical from a doctor. They always do look at my private parts and always have, but it's usually really fast. I've never had a full gyn exam or anything. It can be a little awkward, but I just remember everyone has that done and they probably do it ten times a day

Dad is a doctor so is Mom-My Mom used to give me
my own-Dad does now-Embarrassing-YES but getting
back-in grade school all physicals the doctor came in
to examine and we only had to drop our pants-he took
over the rest-in junior or high school u have either the
option to go to ur own doctor or one is just given in the
weight room by the school doctor-u wear only ur boxers
and the doctor takes over the rest.

Uh... This keeps popping up from time to time, it kinda weirdo me out :/. I'm 16 and my brother is 18, we're both heavily active in sports teams, NEVER had a physical for it. Nor has anyone else in the UK. Is this random intrusion on privacy for insurance purposes or does nobody know?

We keep our shorts and underpants on until the hernia check, then just lower them when we're checked

So I found this - basically bring a parent and say no to any intimate examination. There is no medical evidence to justify intimate exams, and in fact the NHS in the UK, New Zealand, Australia, etc. recommend against them. In fact unnecessary screenings lead to wild goose chases of natural anomalies that don't require treatment.
Hence I found myself asking why the US seems to be obsessed with them? Maybe it's a money issue, more boxes ticked = more procedures to pay for = $$$$.
In the countries I've listed, and more, they consider it enough to educate children over 4 and teens to 'see the GP if unsure' and educates on checking for lumps, etc. As for hernia's, if they are small they heal themselves. If they aren't small, they'll hurt and you will obviously go to a doctor to get checked...
It's a common sense system which has been proven to work. So say no to intimate checks. Bring a parent to defend you and be in the room to ensure your wishes are respected. If the doctor really pushes it they probably have alterier motives (see the part of the article about breast examinations - shudder -).

What in the world are you talking about?
How is the doctor supposed to make sure everything is working properly if he never looks or touches anything?
My cousin found out he had testicular cancer thanks to a routine exam during a physical. They are completely necessary.

I'm sorry but your emotional response with your singular anecdote does not refute or rebuke my post in any way.
Thus this post will be simply reiteration of my last.
In the United Kingdom (population 64m), New Zealand (4.6m), Australia (24m) and The Netherlands (17m) are prime examples that you are incorrect.
That's 109.6 million people approximately who never had their genitals examined in the pretence of a physical.
That's at least 4 medical bodies, one of them globally respected, that all discourage the practice. Not least for the reasons I already outlined. It is unnecessary, invasive, leads to false positives and needless distress.
Yet without having their genitals routinely viewed by adults and touched, these teens grow into healthy adults at the exact same rate as the US - with all its constant checks. Ergo it's VERY demonstrable that these exams are NOT in the patient's interest.
Did you even read the link I posted where it highlights these points?
Nobody I know has ever had to expose themselves or be touched in order to play sports, or as a 'routine checkup'. Instead we are educated to check for unusual lumps and to bring odd occurrences to the doctors attention. You seem to have got confused on this point, if there is a lump, then the exam makes complete sense.
But the simple fact is that without being groped or looked at, everything develops perfectly all by itself in 99.99% of cases. Please read the article before deciding to reply.

N.B. Due to the continued quoting of my posts by a rather emotional individual who ignores the content, I'll just leave this here as a ... 'What part don't you understand? o.O' testament.

Tell that to all the people who have been saved because the doctor found something during a routine physical. Just because you don't feel comfortable at the doctor doesn't mean that it's wrong.

For the record nobody is forced to undergo the physical at school. The school just provides this service free of charge. You always have the option of actually going to your own private doctor and having it done. You also have the option of not participating in school sports.
It's really not that big of a deal. If you can be in a bikini at the beach you can be in a bikini in front of a doctor for the 20 minutes it takes.

Wish I had the option of skipping school sports!!

Well like you say, some schools in the US (the article I posted talks about this) have it as 'manditory' if you want to play sports. Some schools promote it without giving any mention the invasive tests have no medically backed purpose.
The issue most prevelant here is informed consent is absent in these cases.
And as already pointed out by several posters, and the link, and my posts - the tests are more than just 'down to underwear'.
The components that sports require are cardiovascular systems, respiratory, not reproductive. Further, as stated at least 109 million teens particpate, have participated, will participate in sports without having a physical. And they fare no better or worse for it.
If it was just down to bikini/boxers like your school I certainly wouldn't be posting about it though, but your experience isn't the only practice. Would you feel as comfortable if for no reason a nurse poked around your vagina or felt your boobs?

It's like an assembly line. They get us in and out as quick as possible. There's a nurse or secretary person in the gym who is the organizer. She tells us what to do and expect. Since it's in the summer almost everybody is in shorts but even if people are wearing pants it's fine. They take like 5 or 6 guys into the locker room together while everyone else waits in the gym. Those 5-6 get undressed into underwear. Two guys then go into teachers room or bathroom area depending on the gym layout where a nurse and doctor are. One guy pees into a cup for the nurse while the other guy pulls down underwear for the phydical then they reverse it then the next two come in. Very fast and quick.

yea my school did that exact same i think so the doctor can do the whole school in 1 day. Except in middle school we didn't have to drug test. For most kids it's fast but for me one time it took longer cause of tight foreskin

Our school provides this as a service, and we all line up and get checked out. But this year, instead of a doctor it was a female nurse practitioner! When us guys saw it was a woman, a few of us started to squirm. One said he was NOT gonna let her check his n*ts. Another was worried he'd get hard. And another said he was looking forward to her seeing him because she'd be "amazed at his size" (yeah, right.)

I thought it was kind of cool that a nurse watched me pee. Idk if I would want a nurse to check my junk ir not. I would be afraid I'd get hard. Probably worth the risk just to find out. Do you know how many guys did get hard?

I know they've seen it all. Idc tho. Boning up is embarrassing. Especially when you're naked and they're dressed. Partially a power thing on top of boning up.
