Reconnecting with old friends

So I'm posting on here again, the reason for it is I want to reconnect with old friends, but you see, I can easily message some of them.. That's not the issue but I'm scared incase it's awkward :( I want to message some of them and go out and do stuff with them but I don't know how to do it, I'm trying to create a social life for myself but I don't know how to.

If you have any advice please do help

P.S my situation might sound silly but it's serious.
